Gulfstream Park Picks – Wednesday, January 13, 2021
Gulfstream Park features ten maiden, allowance, and claiming races for our entertainment, edification, and profit for Wednesday.
While Gulfstream Park is not currently open to spectators, you can find their full ten-race card for Wednesday— including horses, jockeys, morning line odds, and wagering options — at one of our best horse racing betting sites.
Now, read on for my Gulfstream Park picks and betting tips for Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
Pick for Gulfstream Park Race 6
This is an allowance optional claiming race for Florida-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $44,000.
My money’s on the 2/1 morning line favorite — Soldollie, ridden by Miguel A. Vasquez. This six-year-old gelding finished in the money 12 of his 18 career starts, winning six. There are certainly jockeys in this run with better win records than Vasquez, but his mount is easily the superior in the field.
None of the longer-odds entries look to be capable of a money finish against this field, so let’s save our long money for later.
- Win: Soldollie 2/1
Pick for Gulfstream Park Race 7
This is a maiden special weight race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of about 7-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $50,000.
I’m backing the third-favored (4/1) entry in this race — Spill the Tea, with Julien Leparoux in the irons. This filly moneyed her single career start, finishing second after multiple bumps at the Gulfstream starting gate last month.
I don’t see any long-odds entry making it to the finish line in time for payday, so my bankroll lives to fight another day.
- Win: Spill the Tea 4/1
Picks for Gulfstream Park Race 8
This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/8 miles on turf for a purse of $53,000.
If the also-eligible (MTO) Tatweej (5/2 morning line), with Edgard Zayas aboard, is in the starting gate, then he’s your win ticket. This five-year-old moneyed four of his five career starts, winning three of them.
If he doesn’t start, then your backup plan for the win is the third-favored (4/1) entry, Artie’s Rumor, ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 21 of his 34 career starts, winning ten of them.
At 15/1, Identifier, ridden by Jose L. Ortiz, is my choice for a value show wager. This five-year-old moneyed nine of his 16 career starts, winning four.
- Win: Tatweej 5/2 (if starts)
- Win: Artie’s Rumor 4/1 (otherwise)
- Show: Identifier 15/1
