Gulfstream Park Picks – Friday, August 21, 2020

| August 21, 2020 12:44 am PDT

Gulfstream Park’s thoroughbred racing card for Friday, August 21, 2020 features nine claiming, maiden, and allowance matches.

The Friday forecast for Hallandale Beach, Florida predicts isolated thunderstorms, temperatures in the upper 80s, and winds around 13 mph.

Post time for the first race at Gulfstream Park on Friday is 12 PM (EDT). Let’s get on to my horse racing predictions, picks, and tips.

Picks for Gulfstream Park Race 3

This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds running on turf a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $54,500.

I’m going with the third-favored (9/2) entry in this race, and not just because the jockey is Edgardo Zayas. The gelding Gran Old Parr brings his own credentials, including three money finishes in four career starts—two of them wins.

At 15/1, Citrus Burst, with Ronald D. Allen, Jr. in the irons, is worth consideration, for at least a show ticket. This gelding moneyed three of his five career starts, winning one of them.

  • Win: Gran Old Parr 9/2
  • Show: Citrus Burst 15/1

Pick for Gulfstream Park Race 6

This is a maiden claiming race for three-year-olds and upwards running six furlongs for a purse of $39,000.

Okay, this one I’m calling specifically because the jockey is Edgardo Zayas. It’s a maiden race; if we ignore the jockeys, we might as well base our choices on popularity. Be that as it may, the three-year-old gelding R Private Jet does have some good workout stats to support the morning line’s 2/1 faith in his abilities.

I don’t see any long-odds entries here that would be worth the risk.

  • Win: R Private Jet 2/1

Picks for Gulfstream Park Race 8

This is a claiming race for three-year-olds running six furlongs for a purse of $39,000.

I’m in agreement with the morning line on the 9/5 favorite Maserati Man, with Miguel A. Vasquez in the irons. This gelding finished in the money five of his eight career starts, winning three of them—which sets him far ahead in this field.

Speaking of Edgard Zayas… He’s riding the long-odds (10/1) Ricki Ticki Taffi in this race. This gelding has moneyed half of his eight starts and won one of them. Show bet only.

  • Win: Maserati Man 9/5
  • Show: Ricki Ticki Taffi 10/1
