Gulfstream Park continues its thoroughbred racing schedule Thursday, August 13, 2020, with nine maiden, allowance, and claiming matches.

The forecast for Thursday in Hallandale Beach, Florida calls for continued cloudy skies and a 20% chance of rain, with temps again in the upper 80s and winds around 12 mph.

Race 1 Prediction and Pick

A maiden race for two-year-olds. I’m going to stick with the 5/2 moneyline favorite here, despite the post position: Patrick’s Lass, with top jockey Emisael Jaramillo aboard. This filly has no career starts but has timed well in workouts. Additionally, she has the winningest jockey in this race at the helm.

Race 1 Tip

At 30/1, you might consider a show ticket on Shouldaknownbetter, with Alberto Burgos in the irons. This filly’s record consists of one unproductive career start, but she has had good workout times. Also, Burgos brings his skills and his seven-pound apprentice allowance to the game.

  • Patrick’s Lass

  • Post Time: 12:29 PM
  • Purse: $41,500
  • Distance: 5-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Maidens, Two Years Old.

Race 2 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Catching Fish, R D Allen, Jr., 30/1
  • 2 Orula, J M Rios, 30/1
  • 3 True Identity, C A Torres, 10/1
  • 4 Canyouhearmenow, E J Zayas, 9/2
  • 5 Top Boss, M A Vasquez, 8/5
  • 6 Geometrico, L Panici, 12/1
  • 7 Come See About It, V Lebron, 4/1
  • 8 Bastien Le Brown, E Jaramillo, 3/1

Race 2 Prediction and Pick

I can’t argue with the moneyline’s 8/5 choice for favorite in this two-year-old maiden race: Top Boss, with Miguel A. Vasquez aboard. This gelding moneyed in two of his three career starts and has good times in recent workouts.

Race 2 Tip

None of the longer-odds entries stand out as potential show tickets, so let’s keep our longshot money in our pockets.

  • Top Boss

  • Post Time: 3:40 PM
  • Purse: $41,000
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 1 mile
  • Conditions: For Three-Year-Olds.

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Tons of Gold, C A Torres, 5/1
  • 2 Blessed Journey, M Meneses, 12/1
  • 3 Saint Benevolence, A Burgos, 15/1
  • 4 Avant Garde, L Reyes, 6/1
  • 5 Like You, M A Vasquez, 2/1
  • 6 Genghis, E J Zayas, 9/2
  • 7 Rebelde, S Gonzalez, 5/2

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I’m going to go with the 2/1 moneyline favorite in this race, as well: Like You, ridden by Miguel A. Vasquez. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money seven of his 11 career starts, winning three of them.

Race 8 Tip

No long odds worth taking a chance, but you might consider a trifecta bet on the three favored entries—Like You, Rebelde, and Genghis (5-7-6), Rebelde moneyed 12 of his 18 starts, with three wins; he has Santiago Gonzalez aboard for this race. And Genghis finished in the money for nine of his 15 starts, winning two; he has ace jockey Edgardo Zayas at the helm.
