Gorodeya vs. Smolevichi Betting Preview – Belarusian Premier League, October 24, 2020

This is a massive game at the bottom of the Belarusian Premier League, as Gorodeya welcomes Smolevichi to town knowing that a win could make all the difference in its battle to avoid relegation.

The visiting side is all but down but could severely dent Gorodeya’s hopes of safety by pulling off a shock victory of its own.

It has been a long time since Gorodeya has been odds on favorite to win a game in the Belarusian Premier League, but the fact that it is facing a team that is bottom of the table and ten points from safety plays a large role in that. The incredible away win at Neman last weekend probably helps too.

Gorodeya vs. Smolevichi Match Preview

After going seven games without a win, Gorodeya really chose a fine time to buck that trend when it sensationally beat Neman Grodno away from home last weekend. To wait until the 90th minute until Sajcic Lazar scored the only goal of the game made the victory even sweeter somehow.

That win will undoubtedly give the players more confidence going into the last four games of the season. But they will also know that both Slutsk and Belshina have two games in hand. So a home game against Smolevichi will not be a good time for them to rest on their laurels.

Smolevichi looks doomed, frankly. The 4-1 home defeat to Torpedo on Sunday left it ten points adrift and with a worse record using any possible relegation tie-breaker against the teams around it. The small club from just outside Minsk may have scored in the last three games but it has not picked up any points since the second week in July.

There have been a number of reasons for Smolevichi’s current predicament but the fact is that it was always going to struggle after gaining promotion last year. Financial and personnel issues have not helped along the way – but it would have been favorite for the drop even before a ball was kicked this season.

Prediction and Pick

  • Gorodeya to Win

I have not had the opportunity to predict a Gorodeya victory on many occasions this season (and I definitely didn’t back it to beat Neman last week) but a home win seems like the only possible outcome here. Smolevichi is a beaten team already and will surely fall to an eleventh consecutive league defeat this Saturday.
