Golden Gate Fields Picks – Monday, September 7, 2020

| September 6, 2020 11:41 pm PDT

Golden Gate Fields delivers some robust wagering action with a nine-race card that includes the ungraded Rolling Green Stakes, which offers a purse of $75,000 for the leading finishers.

Remember that while I cover the Rolling Green Stakes and two other high-purse matches, you can always find Golden Gate Fields’ entire slate of races at our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Now, let’s get to my picks, predictions, and tips for Labor Day races at Golden Gate Fields.

Golden Gate Fields Race 3

This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs on the all-weather track for a purse of $32,000.

I like the morning line’s 9/5 favorite in this race—Daddysprize, with top jockey Frank T. Alvarado aboard. This five-year-old ridgling moneyed six of his nine career starts, winning four of them.

Longest odds in this race are 6/1, and I don’t think that’s long enough to warrant a show bet in this particular field.

  • Win: Daddysprize 9/5

Golden Gate Fields Race 6

This is a claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $17,000.

My money’s on the fourth-favored (4/1) Top of the Game, with Catalino Martinez in the irons. This seven-year-old gelding moneyed 13 of his 32 starts, winning ten of them. In this race, that makes him statistically the best in the field.

At 10/1, I think Uber Star, with Irving Orozco aboard, is a value bet to show. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money in 25 of his 46 starts, winning ten of them.

  • Win: Top of the Game 4/1
  • Show: Uber Star 10/1

Golden Gate Fields Race 8

This is the ungraded Rolling Green Stakes, a race for three-year olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $50,000.

I’m going to stick with the morning line’s 5/2 favorite in this stakes race—Kiwi’s Dream, piloted by Irving Orozco. This five-year-old gelding moneyed 11 of his 15 career starts, winning five of them.

A true longshot at 20/1, I like Navy Armed Guard for a value show bet, not just because he moneyed 15 of his 25 starts, but because Frank T. Alvarado is his pilot.

  • Win: Kiwi’s Dream 5/2
  • Show: Navy Armed Guard 20/1
