Golden Gate Fields Picks – Saturday, October 31, 2020
Golden Gate Fields headlines its nine-race schedule Saturday with the ungraded Pike Place Dancer Stakes, a one-mile turf race for two-year-old fillies.
Golden Gate Fields permits spectators, so locals who choose to watch the thoroughbred action in person can expect a beautiful race day with highs in the upper 70s under partly cloudy skies, and winds around eight mph.
Read on for my Golden Gate Fields picks and betting tips for Saturday’s richest races.
Pick for Golden Gate Fields Race 3
This is an allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of one mile on the all-weather track for a purse of $32,000.
I’m going with the third-favored (9/2) entry here–Never for Money, with Irving Orozco in the irons. This three-year-old filly moneyed all three of her career starts, winning two.
No room in this five-horse match for long odds, so we’ll save that longshot money for later, m’kay?
- Win: Never for Money 9/2
Picks for Golden Gate Fields Race 7
This is a claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of six furlongs on the all-weather track for a purse of $17,000.
I’m sticking with the 2/1 morning line favorite for this race—Zelaia, with Kevin E. Orozco aboard. This three-year-old filly finished in the money seven of her 12 career starts, winning four of them.
The longest odds in this race are 8/1, but the horse the morning line assigned those odds to—Just Classy, with Pedro Flores aboard—has a record slightly better than that of the M/L favorite: Eight money finishes in 12 starts, four of them wins.
The difference here is that Just Classy’s record stretches over an 18-month period, while Zelaia made her record entirely in 2020. Still, I’m buying a show ticket for Just Classy, and if the odds were just a skosh longer (and Flores had a couple more years of jockeying under his belt), I’d go across the board. If wishes were horses…
- Win: Zelaia 2/1
- Show: Just Classy 8/1
Picks for Race 8 – Pike Place Dancer Stakes
This is the ungraded Pike Place Dancer Stakes, a race for two-year-old fillies running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $75,000.
I’m backing the second-favored (2/1) entry here—I’m So Anna, with Frank T. Alvarado in the irons. This filly moneyed all four of her career starts, winning one.
At 12/1, I like Risen Lady, with Santo Rivera aboard, for a value show wager. This filly moneyed both of her career starts, winning one of them.
- Win: I’m So Anna 2/1
- Show: Risen Lady 12/1
