Golden Gate Fields Picks – Thursday, October 29, 2020

All but one of the seven races on the schedule at Golden Gate Fields on Thursday are claiming races, and I cover two of those along with the sole starter allowance match for our wagering profitability.

This is a claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $20,000.

There’s some serious talent in the irons in this five-horse race, but I believe the 9/5 favorite will win—the Irish import Posh Holly, with Kyle Frey aboard. This four-year-old filly moneyed seven of her 14 career starts, winning three of them, but her real record is her starts in 2020, where she finished in the money four of her five starts, winning two. All of her 2020 races, by the way, were in the US.

The longest odds in this race are 8/1, and I do suspect that Mulhima, with David C. Lopez in the irons, can finish in the money. Her 2020 record is six money finishes in ten starts, with two wins. Not a particularly profitable bet, I agree, but a show ticket win, even at 8/1, is still a win.

This is a claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of five furlongs on turf for a purse of $20,000.

I don’t think this will be a close race at all, so I’m backing the 9/5 favorite here—Cartoonist, ridden by Erick Lopez. This eight-year-old gelding moneyed 31 of his 55 career starts, winning 15 of them.

The longest odds in this six-horse race are 8/1, and neither of those looks to finish anywhere near a paycheck.

This is a starter allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs on the all-weather track for a purse of $19,000.

I have to go with the 2/1 morning line favorite, as well—Spun Away, ridden by Francisco Monroy. This three-year-old filly moneyed all three of her career starts, winning two of them.

At 20/1, I think Senorita Estrella, with Evin Roman aboard, is a solid value show wager. This four-year-old filly moneyed four of her six career starts, winning one.
