Golden Gate Fields Picks – Thursday, November 5, 2020

| November 4, 2020 1:50 pm PDT

Golden Gate Fields brings us seven claiming and maiden races for our Thursday wagering pleasure.

I found underdogs in all three of the races I reviewed, as well as a couple of show ticket bargain bets.

Remember that Golden Gate Fields permits spectators, and locals planning a Thursday at the Races excursion can expect mild winds around nine mph, temps in the lower 70s, and partly cloudy skies with a slight (10%) chance of rain. Incidentally, all the races for Thursday at Golden Gate Fields are on the all-weather track.

Read on for my Golden Gate Fields picks and betting tips for Thursday’s richest races.

Picks for Golden Gate Fields Race 1

This is a claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile on the all-weather track for a purse of $11,500.

I’m backing the second-favored (2/1) entry here—One Eyed Robin, with Catalino Martinez in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed four of his 11 career starts, winning two, and his 2020 stats are even better: Three money finishes in six starts, one of them a win.

Two entries share the longest M/L odds (12/1) in this race, and it’s Jazz Street, with Brayan Pena aboard, that I like for a value show ticket. This three-year-old gelding moneyed six of his eleven career starts, winning two.

  • Win: One Eyed Robin 2/1
  • Show: Jazz Street 12/1

Pick for Golden Gate Fields Race 2

This is a maiden claiming race for two-year-old fillies running a distance of six furlongs on the all-weather track for a purse of $14,000.

I like the second-favored (5/2) entry here — Sober, with Irving Orozco aboard, mostly because she’s the only entry in this race that ever finished in the money. Okay, for the record, she moneyed her single career start, but her times in recent workouts have been better than those of her competition.

I see nothing in the longer-odds entries to indicate they will do anything but chase the other horses.

  • Win: Sober 5/2

Picks for Golden Gate Fields Race 5

This is a maiden claiming race for two-year-old fillies running a distance of six furlongs on the all-weather track for a purse of $14,000.

Some real star power in the irons for this maiden race. I like the second-favored (3/1) Cold Brew Kelly, piloted by Kyle Frey. This filly moneyed two of her three career starts, both seconds.

At 20/1, you might want to consider Fictional, with Brayan Pena in the irons, for a value show bet. This filly finished fourth in her single career start, but her times in recent workouts shows promise, particularly in this field.

  • Win: Cold Brew Kelly 3/1
  • Show: Fictional 20/1
