Getafe vs. Villarreal – La Liga, November 8, 2020

One of the best matches of the weekend will take place in the Primera Division when Getafe takes on Villarreal. These teams are separated by four points in the La Liga standings with Villarreal winning the last contest between these two teams in July, 3-1. That was their second straight victory against Getafe.

Getafe is coming off a draw against Valencia back on Sunday, 2-2. Villarreal dominated Valladolid, 2-0 on Monday. That gives Villarreal a solid eight goals allowed in eight matches while they have scored 10.  Getafe has been impressive defensively, allowing six goals in seven matches but they have been offensively challenged, scoring just seven goals in that same span.

Getafe vs. Villarreal Odds

Villarreal -PK -102
Getafe -PK -135
Villarreal to Win +204
Getafe to Win +147
Draw +196
Over 2.0 -121
Under 2.0 -108

In an interesting twist, oddsmakers believe there is a better chance of this game ending in a draw (+196) than for Villarreal to win straight up (+204). Getafe is given slightly better odds at +147.

Odds change greatly when the draw option is taken out of the equation. Getafe is still favored in the contest. The total comes in at 2.0, with the under at -108 given the best odds.

Getafe vs. Villarreal Preview

Getafe looked like they had their contest against Valencia in the bag, but a late penalty gave their opponents a chance to tie the score, forcing Getafe to settle for a tie. Despite earning the draw, the club had to be happy with scoring two goals, as they had just one in their prior three matches combined.

This is a club scrambling to try to find the back of the net. They had been shut out in three of their last six matches, scoring six goals in that span. On the bright side, they have played extremely well defensively, also allowing six goals.

Getafe is led by Angel Rodriguez with three goals. David Soria has been in the goal for each of the team’s seven matches and has performed well, allowing six goals.

Villarreal is going shorthanded as right back Damien Suarez will be out of this contest after being sent off in the last match. That is a big loss, but this team is deep enough to withstand the blow and still control the Getafe attack.

Villarreal is coming off a 2-0 victory over Valladolid, making them 3-0-2 in their last five matches. They have smothered opponents defensively, allowing just two goals in that span. They are unbeaten in their last two matches on the road.

Villarreal is led by Paco Alcacer who has four goals.

Getafe vs. Villarreal Pick

Well, what can be said about a battle of two teams playing exceptionally good defense but struggling to score goals. This honestly has drawl written all over it, and I do not see any reason to go against my instincts on this one.

Villarreal is 7-2 during their five-match unbeaten streak with three shutouts during that run. Getafe has been nearly as good, shutting out opponents in three of their last six matches. These are teams that play a tight, trapping style defense that is difficult for opponents to attack.

I expect a 1-1 draw in this match. So, I recommend taking the draw and avoiding the total altogether.
