Georgia Bulldogs vs. Alabama Crimson Tide – College Football, October 17, 2020

| October 13, 2020 11:54 pm PDT

Dabo Swinney and company are starting to look invincible. After toying with a pretty good Hurricanes squad, it’s evident that nobody in the ACC can matchup with Clemson. As far as who is the biggest threat to the Tigers in the national scene, the SEC showdown in Tuscaloosa will settle that debate.

Let’s jump right into a Georgia vs. Alabama prediction to try and settle the score.

Georgia vs. Alabama Odds

Georgia (-6)-110
Alabama (+6)-110
Georgia to Win+185
Alabama to Win-225
Over 57-110
Under 57-110

Alabama is hovering as a six-point favorite as we inch toward Saturday night’s game in Tuscaloosa. Kirby Smart is yet to defeat Nick Saban since taking over in Athens, and the Tide offense is rolling. And I mean, rolling. At the same time, Bama gave up 48 points and 647 yards to a 1-2 Ole Miss squad.

57 may seem a tad low for the total, but remember that Georgia has arguably the best defense in America.

Previewing the Bulldogs

So much for JT Daniels being cleared to play for the Bulldogs. All that hype about D’Wan Mathis is being curbed for now. The Georgia offense belongs to Stetson Bennett until further notice.

The 5’11” junior has done an admirable guiding the Dawgs – tossing five touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s only been sacked a total of three times in three games.

While it’s been smooth sailing for Bennett thus far, it’s worth noting that he is yet to attempt more than 29 passes in a game this season. Look for that to change this weekend in Alabama in what could very well turn into a shootout.

On the other side of the ball, the Georgia front seven has the athletes in place to impede on Najee Harris’ progress. DBs Tyson Campbell and Richard LeCounte are tough as nails in the secondary.

As far as Kirby needing to motivate his troops, not so much according to the Georgia HC.

“They don’t need motivating. It’s No. 2 versus No. 3. It’s Alabama vs. Georgia. They realize what’s at stake.”

Previewing the Crimson Tide

I used the word “admirable” to describe the job that Stetson Bennet has done in Athens. I’ll need to find a much more descriptive adjective to portray what Mac Jones is doing in Tuscaloosa.

Terrific or outstanding don’t give it proper justice, but perhaps “scintillating” is suitable.

The first Bama QB to throw for more than 400 yards in consecutive games is surrounded by weapons galore. We knew Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith were going to be special – both are projected as first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. With that being said, sophomore John Metchie III has quickly emerged as one of the most dynamic deep threats in America.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Najee Harris and his NCAA-leading 10 rushing touchdowns. The point is – you can make a case that the 2020 Alabama offense is even more forceful than the one that included Tua, Jeudy, and Ruggs in 2019.

Of course, the concerns about Nick Saban’s defense are genuine after it got lit up by OIe Miss. The question becomes if the Bulldogs offense is explosive enough to go toe-to-toe with the Crimson Tide.

Georgia vs. Alabama Pick

When it comes time to lock in a Georgia vs. Alabama prediction, give me the team playing at home that’s armed with an NFL-caliber offense. As tremendous as the Bulldogs defense has played, their previous competition pales in comparison to what they’ll face on Saturday.

Mac Jones is here to stay, Bama’s wide receiving corps is exceptional, and the men up front clear the way for Najee Harris to prosper. Bryant-Denny won’t be rocking like it typically would be for this matchup, but it’s still one of the best college football stadiums in the country.

Add it all up and it’ll be an uphill battle for the Dawgs to keep pace with the Tide.
