Gangwon vs. Suwon Samsung Bluewings – K League 1, October 31, 2020
It will be a case of what might have been for both these clubs on Saturday, as Gangwon and Suwon Samsung Bluewings round off their disappointing seasons.
Gangwon will feel as though it should have been competing in the Championship group, while the Bluewings’ campaign never really got started.
Gangwon vs. Suwon Odds
With nothing really to play for, games like this can be very hard to predict. Gangwon has already assured a seventh place finish, while Suwon’s form in the last few weeks has afforded it safety already. BetOnline has the game priced very evenly, but I’m leaning towards a home win to finish off the season.
Gangwon vs. Suwon Match Preview
Gangwon had only dipped into the bottom six for two of the opening 22 weeks of the season. But a terrible performance in that last game before the split condemned the club to the relegation group – where it has been head and shoulders above the other five clubs below.
The 1-1 draw with FC Seoul was the first time Gangwon had dropped points in the last four weeks and now it goes into the final day of the season with the chance to finish with a full 12 points more than Gwangju in sixth. A failure to adapt its style of play has really cost the club and now it just has this ‘non-game’ to go.
The Bluewings will hardly be much happier with the way the season has gone. But the performances since the split have made the side look like the Champions League-qualifying club it was last year at least. Two wins against FC Seoul and Incheon United helped it climb the table – and even the defeat to Seongnam last weekend didn’t mean that it would be facing a nail-biting last game.
One of the main reasons for Suwon’s poor performance this season has been its inability to score goals. Top striker Adam Taggart has only managed five all campaign – and he has traditionally been the main thrust for the club’s success. He might be at least one player that wants to see the season out on a high.
Gangwon vs. Suwon Betting Pick and Prediction
Gangwon to Win+159
Gangwon should really not have had to play in the relegation group. The way it started the season made it seem as though it would be pushing for Champions League qualification instead. That was not to be in the end, but there should be one more win to celebrate before the end of the year at least.
