Gangwon vs. Seongnam – K League 1, October 4, 2020
It must be tough for teams like Gangwon to raise itself again after narrowly missing out on the top six at the split. But the bottom of the table is so tight that every game is still important.
But Seongnam didn’t seem to see it that way last week as it was thrashed by Incheon United and now the Magpies need to get back on their game to escape a real relegation scrap.
Gangwon vs. Seongnam Odds
Surely Seongnam will turn up this Sunday after last weekend’s humiliation at the hands of Incheon? There should be a renewed effort from the Magpies but MyBookie still doesn’t see them taking the points from Gangwon. The home side looked far better during the first 22 games of the season and the odds for a Gangwon win do look the best value.
Gangwon vs. Seongnam Match Preview
After dropping down into the bottom half of the table on the last day of the first section of the season, Gangwon could be forgiven for being deflated. But a good 2-0 win against a Busan side in freefall last weekend has kept the club head and shoulders above the rest in the bottom half and six points clear of the relegation spot.
Both games between these two ended in draws earlier in the season, so Gangwon manager Kim Byung-soo will be keen for his team to earn another three points this Sunday and ensure that it keeps clear of any end of season worries at the foot of the table.
Where Gangwon had initially excited everyone with its open, free-flowing soccer (before it got found out), Seongnam concentrated on defense once again and has largely been successful in staying away from the relegation fight because of that. But something went very wrong last weekend.
Stefan Mugosa was on fire but losing 6-0 at home to the bottom of the table team can never be acceptable. It was, unsurprisingly, by the far the worst result of the season for Seongnam and leaves it just one point above the drop. With a worse goals scored record, this is a team that now desperately needs to win some of its final four games.
Gangwon vs. Seongnam Prediction and Pick
Gangwon to Win+102
For anyone who enjoyed watching Gangwon’s ‘Byung-soo ball’ earlier in the season, its drop down into the bottom half of the table has been painful to witness. An inability to adapt has been the major problem but there is still a lot of talent in this squad.
With Seongnam playing for top-flight survival, this game is sure to be very close – but I feel the home side has enough in its locker to come away with all three points.
