Freiburg vs. Bayer Leverkusen – Bundesliga, November 1, 2020

The 2020-21 German Bundesliga season continues with Matchday 6 over the weekend, so I bring you the best Freiburg vs. Bayer Leverkusen betting pick for Sunday, November 1. 

The previous five encounters between these two foes produced two or fewer goals in total, but Sunday’s clash at Schwarzwald-Stadion in Freiburg promises a great battle. Leverkusen is still undefeated this term, while the hosts will be keen to snap a four-game winless streak.

On paper, Leverkusen is a better team than Freiburg, and Bayer is undefeated in six straight matchups with the Breisgau Brazilians, tallying three wins and three draws in the process.

Last season, Bayer beat Freiburg 1-0 at Schwarzwald-Stadion as a -130 road fave, while the clash in Leverkusen was finished in a 1-1 draw.

Freiburg opened the 2020-21 Bundesliga season with a 3-2 road victory at Stuttgart, but since then, it’s been a bumpy road for the Breisgau Brazilians. They suffered a heavy 4-0 loss at Dortmund while playing three identical 1-1 draws against Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen at home and Union Berlin on the road.

Last weekend, Freiburg allowed a whopping 22 shots to Union Berlin while taking only eight in a return. However, in their previous outing at home, the Breisgau Brazilians were unlucky to get just a point. They outplayed Werder and took 19 shots while holding the ball in possession for 61 percent of the time.

While Freiburg is sitting at the 13^th spot of the Bundesliga standings with six points, Leverkusen is fourth with nine points and a 6:3 goal difference. After three straight draws Wolfsburg 0-0, RB Leipzig 1-1, and Stuttgart 1-1, Bayer won two straight contests over Mainz 1-0 away and Augsburg 3-1 at home.

Leverkusen dominated Augsburg for most of the game this past Monday and took 15 shots while holding the ball on their feet. Still, they allowed some very dangerous scoring opportunities, and Augsburg blew a couple of chances to take a 2-1 lead.

Bayer is coming off a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Slavia Prague in the UEFA Europa League last Thursday. It was their first road loss in all competitions this season after a couple of wins and draws.

Leverkusen allowed just three goals in five Bundesliga games this season. Only one of the last six matchups between Leverkusen and Freiburg saw both teams scoring, but I expect to see some goals on both sides this Sunday.

I’ve watched Bayer beating Augsburg, and they should have conceded at least two goals. Leverkusen’s defense doesn’t look as good on the pitch as the stats suggest, and Freiburg should have enough firepower to find the net.

Of course, Bayer will control the ball in the middle of the park, but the hosts will look to launch a counter-attack whenever they can. Freiburg managed to score in each but one of its five Bundesliga outings this term including both home contests that ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

I wouldn’t be surprised with another tie at Schwarzwald-Stadion where three of the last five duels between Freiburg and Leverkusen ended in a goalless draw. Another one would be way too much.
