Formula 1 Fantasy Picks for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (April 24, 2022)

The fourth race of the 2022 Formula 1 season is set to take place this Sunday, April 24, as the drivers and teams head to Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Those of you who enjoy playing F1 fantasy will be pleased to learn that I have put together my top DFS lineup for the Emilia Romagna GP. Today, I will be taking you through the best Formula 1 fantasy picks and sleepers for this weekend.

Will Charles Leclerc dominate once again? Can we trust Max Verstappen’s Red Bull? Could Mercedes return to the top of the podium? Join me as I answer all the burning questions ahead of the big race.

Here are my top Formula 1 fantasy picks for Sunday, April 24. You may notice a high-profile exclusion here. Yep, that’s right – I have decided to leave out Verstappen after the reigning champ recorded two DNFs across the first three races.

All of the best Formula 1 betting apps view Leclerc as the favorite to win the Emilia Romagna GP. So, it only makes sense that he is among my top F1 fantasy picks for this weekend, right?

Having registered two P1s and one P2 this year, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that I’m backing Leclerc to win at Imola. Check out my Emilia Romagna GP betting guide for further information.

Of course, Leclerc has grabbed the headlines this season. But let’s not forget about Sainz. Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate secured P2 in Bahrain before finishing third in Saudi Arabia, helping the Prancing Horse to cement first place in the Constructors’ Championship.

Although Sainz crashed out of the Australian Grand Prix, he looks set to bounce back in Italy. If you’re ignoring Leclerc and Verstappen in your F1 DFS lineup this weekend, then picking the Spaniard could prove to be a smart move.

I didn’t include Hamilton among my top F1 fantasy picks for the Australia GP, simply because he finished tenth in Saudi Arabia. But the seven-time champion sealed an impressive fourth-place finish last time out.

It is no secret that Mercedes is struggling to keep pace with Ferrari and Red Bull this year. Still, Hamilton is one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time. It wouldn’t be a shock if he returned to the podium this weekend.

Perez was forced to retire from the first race of the season but has since recorded finishes of P4 and P2. Granted, Red Bull has been hampered by mechanical issues this year. But Perez avoided trouble in Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Priced at $9,000, Perez is less of a risk than Verstappen ($10,400). It would be stupid of me not to include a Red Bull driver among my top Formula 1 DFS picks for the Emilia Romagna GP. I’m going with Perez over Verstappen this weekend.

As we head into the fourth race of the season, Russell finds himself second in the Drivers’ Championship. The Mercedes newcomer notched finishes of P4 and P5 before claiming his maiden F1 podium with a third-place finish in Melbourne.

Given his consistency, I’m surprised that Russell’s price remains at $8,600 this week. After all, only Leclerc (36.2) has picked up more fantasy points per race (FPPR) than Russell (18.3) this season.

Magnussen sits ninth in the Drivers’ Championship after finishing in the points in two of the first three races. After sealing P5 in Bahrain, the Haas driver finished ninth in Saudi Arabia before dropping to P14 in Australia.

Only seven drivers have more FPPR to their name than Magnussen in 2022. Since all of those drivers are more expensive than Magnussen, it makes perfect sense to consider the Dane as a budget option.

Having registered finishes of P10, P11, and P11 this season, it’s fair to say that Zhou is enjoying a solid debut season in Formula 1. There is no reason why he can’t continue to challenge for points in Italy.

Albon claimed his first points of the season last time out as he finished tenth in Melbourne. Williams used a brave strategy to pit Albon right at the very end of the race – and it paid off.

Only three drivers – Vettel, Stroll, and Latifi – are cheaper than Albon in Formula 1 fantasy. However, ten drivers have a lower FPPR rating. That makes Albon an excellent budget F1 DFS pick.

Leclerc captains my Formula 1 DFS lineup for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, meaning Ferrari is my constructor pick. Given his consistency, Russell’s price of $8,600 is too good to ignore. Magnussen, Zhou, and Albon complete my F1 fantasy lineup.
