FC Seoul vs. Gangwon Betting Preview – K League 1, October 24, 2020

| October 21, 2020 3:57 pm PDT

It is a case of what could have been for both these sides as they meet on Saturday. Poor form throughout the season kept FC Seoul and Gangwon in the bottom half of the table at the split and pits them together now with nothing to play for.

With K League 1 status secured, this game could either be a refreshingly relaxed encounter, or 90 minutes of inaction from two sets of players already thinking about the offseason.

FC Seoul vs. Gangwon Latest Odds

FC Seoul to Win+164
The Draw+215
Gangwon to Win+159

This is another remarkably closely priced game from BetOnline – but this is one is more understandable as both teams have looked good since the split and should probably really be playing in the championship group. The game could go either way, so the odds for the draw might be the best bet.

FC Seoul vs. Gangwon Match Preview

A one-goal victory over Seongnam last weekend meant that FC Seoul is now mathematically safe this season. With players returning from injury, it turned out to be a good day for the club from the capital. But results earlier in the season had already condemned Seoul to a bottom half finish this year.

Caretaker manager Park Hyuk-soon has to be applauded for overseeing this team into the position it is now in – but 2020 has really been a huge letdown. Incheon United comes up next on the final day of the season and everyone involved in the club would love to see the campaign out with another two victories to make up for the disappointment that has gone before.

Gangwon’s players and management will be frustrated more than anything as it enters into its last two games of the season. It seemed sure to finish in the top six at the split but threw it all away in round 22. Now it has eight more points than Gwangju in sixth but can rise no higher in the league table.

‘Byung-soo ball’ has been far more effective against the weaker teams in the league over the last three weeks than it was for the majority of the campaign – and the 3-1 win against Incheon United last weekend was a comprehensive performance. This will probably be the toughest game of the two remaining for Gangwon, but it is a pity that there is absolutely nothing riding on it.

Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

Gangwon has definitely been the better side of the two over the course of the season – and especially during the relegation group fixtures – but the players have been naïve at times as well. FC Seoul should probably have been challenging for a Champions League place again but collapsed earlier in the season. It will probably mean that these two teams will largely be going through the motions on Saturday – and that means a draw could be the outcome.
