FC Seoul vs. Busan IPark – K League 1, October 4, 2020

FC Seoul needs to lift itself out of the current poor form if it is not to get further sucked into a complex relegation fight at the bottom of K League 1 this season.

The opponent this Sunday is Busan IPark, who has begun falling down the table at exactly the wrong time of the year and now faces a huge battle against immediately returning to the second tier.

It is not that common for the draw bet to be the favorite – and I’m not sure that MyBookie has the right reading of this fixture considering the results in the last few weeks. Busan is looking in a very bad shape and could well be the favorites to go down now. FC Seoul has not been much better this season, but I think the price for a home win here looks like good value.

It has been a season to forget for FC Seoul. After the celebrations of qualifying for the AFC Champions League last year, there have been a string of managers and a record-breaking run of consecutive defeats to endure in 2020. With still no decision over a permanent coach, caretaker Kim Ho-young resigned before the loss to Suwon in the Super Match last weekend.

Park Hyun-soon took over for that one but he could not inspire his side to beat a Bluewings squad that has struggled for points all season. That leaves FC Seoul just four points off the bottom of the table and in real danger of going down. Just one or two wins should be enough to avoid that – but that is asking a lot from this club at the moment.

The good news for FC Seoul is that Busan IPark could be said to be in an even worse position. After starting the season fairly brightly after gaining promotion last year, the Royals have been unable to deal with the majority of opponents and have not been able to score the goals that did so well for them last term.

The loss to Gangwon last weekend spelled the end for manager Cho Duk-je, as he resigned after guiding the club to just one win in the last 13 games. It’s three defeats in a row for Busan now and there seems to be a lack of fight to turn that form around. Caretaker manager Lee Ki-hyung has taken over for the remaining four games and will need to work out how to change that situation.

With Busan looking so poor at the current time there really seems like no other bet to go for apart from a home win for FC Seoul. The capital city club has not been in the position of favorite for many games this season but the odds offered here look too good to pass up this weekend.
