FC Dallas vs. Minnesota United – MLS, October 11, 2020

| October 9, 2020 8:31 am PDT

There are just two points separating FC Dallas and Minnesota United in the Western Conference as the teams prepare to face off at Toyota Stadium on Sunday, October 11. The Loons currently lead the Toros, although Dallas does have a game in hand over their next opponent.

Dallas has failed to win any of their previous four outings and comes into this game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Texas rival Houston Dynamo. On the flip side, Minnesota will be aiming to extend their three-game unbeaten streak this weekend.

Both sides have already secured home victories in this fixture this year, but who will claim the bragging rights this time around? I look at the bookies’ odds before sharing my FC Dallas vs. Minnesota United prediction and betting pick.

Latest Betting Odds

FC Dallas to Win1.95
The Draw3.70
Minnesota United to Win3.45

Despite their barren spell, Dallas (1.95) is the bookies’ favorite to win this one. The Toros have the opportunity to leapfrog Minnesota (3.45) in the standings, but the high odds for the home win suggest the Toros won’t have it all their own way on Sunday.

In all honesty, given that Minnesota has only lost one of their last five games, I’m surprised the best online sportsbooks have made the price for the away win so high.

Match Preview

Three straight victories in September put Dallas in a strong position, but the team has struggled for consistency in recent weeks. Draws with Orlando City and Columbus Crew have kept the Texans afloat, yet defeats to Atlanta United and Houston have prevented them from moving up the standings.

It is no secret that Dallas has its defense to thank for their current league ranking. Only top-club Seattle has conceded fewer goals in the Western Conference than Luchi Gonzalez’s men, but they can’t afford to rely solely on their backline.

The Toros may boast the second-best defensive record in the division, but they are also the second-lowest scorers. Only second-bottom Vancouver has netted fewer goals than Dallas this year, and that is definitely a cause for concern.

While Dallas was enjoying their promising spell last month, Minnesota was struggling. The Loons failed to win any of their final four games in September, with two draws and two defeats coming during that period.

However, Adrian Heath’s side appears to have turned a corner. A 2-0 victory over Cincinnati last weekend came either side of two goalless draws against Real Salt Lake and Nashville. Sure, the Loons may not be firing on all cylinders at the moment. But they are certainly heading in the right direction.

Kevin Molino scored in the win over Cincinnati, and the winger now has four goals in his previous five appearances. With veteran Kai Kamara also continuing to fire, Minnesota looks destined to qualify for the play-offs.

FC Dallas vs. Minnesota United Betting Pick

  • The Draw

Dallas and Minnesota are both enjoying good seasons, although neither side has been particularly consistent this year. Both teams have dipped in and out of form recently, so it’s difficult to predict exactly what will happen on Sunday.

Ultimately, I think the draw is the way to go here. The two-point gap between the sides suggests they are evenly matched, so I can see this game ending level.
