FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids Betting Preview – MLS, September 16, 2020

| September 15, 2020 11:30 pm PDT

FC Dallas and Colorado Rapids meet for the first time this year on Wednesday, September 16. The two teams find themselves locked on 13 points towards the bottom end of the Western Conference, although Dallas has a game in hand over Colorado.

Due to the congested nature of the standings, both sides could move into the final series play-off spots on Wednesday. But with neither team in convincing form, it’s difficult to foresee the outcome of this game.

Nevertheless, I check out the bookies’ odds before sharing my FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids prediction and betting pick.

FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids Odds

FC Dallas to Win 1.91
The Draw 3.60
Colorado Rapids to Win 3.50

Coming into this game on the back of a morale-boosting win over Texas rival Houston Dynamo, FC Dallas is the bookies’ favorite to secure back-to-back victories on Wednesday. However, the high price for the home win suggests that Dallas won’t have it all their own way at Toyota Stadium.

Following a string of mixed results, Colorado thrashed Real Salt Lake 5-0 last weekend. Can the Rapids maintain their momentum?

I assess both sides chances below.

Match Preview

I think it’s worth mentioning right off the bat that no team has lost fewer games than FC Dallas in the Western Conference. The Toros have suffered just two defeats in nine games this year, although they have only managed three wins along the way.

Four draws have prevented Dallas from challenging at the top of the table. Of course, draws are better than defeats. But I’m sure Luchi Gonzalez’s men will be disappointed with a number of results that ultimately got away from them this season.

There is no shame in drawing with Houston and Sporting Kansas City, but having been held by Montreal Impact and newcomer Nashville SC, the Toros will no doubt be ruing missed opportunities.

Draws have also been Colorado’s downfall this term. In fact, the Rapids claimed three consecutive 1-1 ties against Sporting KC, Houston, and San Jose Earthquakes before finally ending that unwanted run with a thumping – and very unexpected – win over RSL.

A Diego Rubio double inside the opening ten minutes saw Colorado race into a 2-0 lead last weekend, while second-half strikes from Sam Vines, Braian Galvan, and Cole Bassett capped off a remarkable victory for the Commerce City outfit.

Believe it or not, that was the Rapids first win since lockdown. Robin Fraser’s men won their first two games before the campaign was put on hold, but they only managed to add a single point to their tally at the MLS is Back Tournament. One defeat and three draws followed, but Colorado finally returned to winning ways last time out.

Prediction and Betting Pick

  • The Draw

Both teams head into this clash on the back of much-needed wins. However, I think it’s going to be difficult for either side to secure successive victories on Wednesday. Dallas and Colorado don’t usually score too many goals, but they don’t generally concede many, either.

The two teams have played a combined total of 19 games this year, with eight draws coming in that time. I believe the draw is the way to go here.
