FC Cincinnati vs. Toronto FC – MLS, October 11, 2020

| October 9, 2020 5:16 am PDT

Cincinnati has failed to score in each of their previous four MLS outings and heads into Sunday’s clash with Toronto on the back of three straight losses. Needless to say, Jaap Stam’s men will be desperate to avoid defeat this weekend, but they are likely to struggle against the Eastern Conference leader.

Toronto comes into this game on a six-game unbeaten run, while four successive victories have seen the Reds open up a three-point lead at the top of the table.

I assess the bookies’ odds and share my FC Cincinnati vs. Toronto FC prediction and betting pick.

FC Cincinnati vs. Toronto FC Odds

FC Cincinnati to Win3.85
The Draw3.65
Toronto FC to Win1.85

If the Canadians were playing at home in this fixture, I’m sure the odds for the Toronto win would be a lot lower. But given that Greg Vanney’s men are on their travels on Sunday, 10bet’s price for the away win looks very tasty.

Table-topper Toronto leads second-bottom Cincinnati by a whopping 21 points, so I’m not surprised the Orange & Blue is the bookies’ outsider here.

FC Cincinnati vs. Toronto FC Preview

With three wins from 16 games this year, it’s safe to say that Cincinnati is in a spot of bother. The Ohio club’s last victory came back in September against New York Red Bulls, with one draw and three defeats coming since then.

Head coach Jaap Stam will no doubt be seriously concerned about his side’s lack of goals in recent games. Indeed, the Orange & Blue hasn’t scored since beating the Red Bulls last month. Cincinnati has failed to hit the target in each of their last four outings and has fired nine blanks in 11 games since the MLS is Back Tournament.

It’s hard to believe that Stam’s men don’t find themselves rock bottom of the Eastern Conference, although I guess that underlines just how bad DC United has been this season.

At the other end of the standings, Toronto is flying. The Ontario outfit has only suffered two defeats in 16 regular-season outings this term, while ten wins have kept the club battling at the top end of the division throughout 2020.

The Reds went through a minor rough patch at the beginning of September, losing back-to-back games to Canadian rivals Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps. But since then, Vanney’s side has barely put a foot wrong.

Toronto is unbeaten in six games, with five victories coming during that period. 20-year-old forward Ayo Akinola has netted three goals in his last five appearances, and it feels like the youngster’s stock is rising with every passing game.

If last year’s MLS Cup runner-up continues to blow their opponents away, I wouldn’t be surprised if Toronto goes one better this time around and scoops the top prize.

FC Cincinnati vs. Toronto FC Betting Pick

  • Toronto FC to Win

In my opinion, the price for the away win is too good to ignore here. Cincinnati can’t seem to score a goal at the moment, while Toronto can’t stop winning!

The Orange & Blue has proved to be a tough opponent this year, with plenty of teams struggling to find a way through against Stam’s stubborn backline. But Toronto shouldn’t have any problems on Sunday.
