FC Cincinnati vs. Sporting Kansas City – MLS, October 28, 2020

Sporting Kansas City moved to the top of the Western Conference with a 4-0 victory over Colorado Rapids last weekend, and the Wizards will be confident of recording another big win when they visit Nippert Stadium on Wednesday, October 28.

Meanwhile, a dreadful run of six defeats in seven games has seen Cincinnati drop to the bottom of the Eastern Conference, so Jaap Stam’s men are likely to struggle against in-form SKC.

As you can see, the online sportsbooks aren’t giving Cincinnati (3.75) much of a chance on Wednesday. Having said that, the price for the Sporting KC win (1.90) seems unusually high.

Given that these two teams find themselves at opposite ends of the overall standings, odds of 1.90 for the away win are looking very tasty.

Considering the mess that teams like DC United and Atlanta United are in right now, Cincinnati must be doing something seriously wrong to be bottom of the Eastern Conference.

The Orange & Blue has only managed to win four of their 20 outings this season, with just one victory coming in their previous eight games. After losing to fellow-strugglers DC, Cincinnati was beaten by Minnesota United last weekend.

It is no secret that scoring goals is the team’s biggest problem. Stam’s men have only netted 11 times this year, while only three players – Yuya Kubo, Brandon Vazquez, and Jurgen Locadio – have scored more than once.

Overall, the Ohio club has failed to score in over half of their games in 2020. It goes without saying that Cincinnati’s play-off dreams have well and truly disappeared.

On the other hand, Sporting Kansas City has been guaranteed a play-off spot for some time now. Peter Vermes’ men have been challenging at the top end of the Western Conference all season, but they finally leapfrogged Seattle Sounders to reach the summit last time out.

Following a cagey first half, second-half strikes from Alan Pulido, Andreu Fontas, Gadi Kinda, and Gerso Fernandes secured a resounding victory over Colorado. The Wizards finished the game with a total of 23 shots (12 on target), so the scoreline could have been bigger.

SKC has only lost one of their last six outings, with wins against Houston Dynamo, Chicago Fire, and Nashville SC also coming during that period.

With the Wizards flying and Cincinnati struggling, another big victory is surely on the horizon for Sporting KC.

As soon as I saw the bookies’ price for the away win in the matchup, backing Sporting KC seemed like a no-brainer. Vermes’ men blew away the Rapids last weekend, and I can see them doing the same to Cincinnati.

The Orange & Blue picked up the MLS Wooden Spoon last season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Stam’s side claims the unwanted award again this year.
