FC Cincinnati vs. Columbus Crew – MLS, October 14, 2020
FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew clash for the fourth Hell is Real Derby of the season on Wednesday, October 14. Cincinnati has failed to win any of the previous three meetings with their Ohio rival, with Columbus claiming two shutout victories over Jaap Stam’s side this year.
The Orange & Blue heads into this match on a four-game losing streak, while the Crew will be aiming to end a three-game winless run.
I assess the bookies’ odds before giving my FC Cincinnati vs. Columbus Crew prediction and betting pick.
FC Cincinnati vs. Columbus Crew Odds
Given that Columbus (2.15) currently holds a massive 18-point lead over Cincinnati (3.10) in the Eastern Conference, the odds for the away win are hugely attractive here.
It is important to remember that home advantage has been somewhat wiped out this year, with very few supporters allowed in the stadiums. Sure, Cincinnati is playing at the Nippert Stadium on Wednesday. But I don’t think that gives the Orange & Blue an edge.
FC Cincinnati vs. Columbus Crew Preview
Cincinnati can’t stop losing at the moment. But perhaps more worryingly, Stam’s men can’t even score a goal. The Orange & Blue has been defeated in each of their previous four outings, and the team has failed to hit the target during that period.
Stam’s solid backline earned the club a number of impressive draws earlier in the season. DC United, Chicago Fire, Philadelphia Union, and even Columbus have been held by Cincinnati this term. However, the team’s recent defensive record has been dreadful.
Not only are Stam’s men just two points ahead of bottom-club DC, but they are now four points behind Inter Miami. Needless to say, any faint hopes of reaching the play-offs have well and truly disappeared.
On the flip side, Columbus’ spot in the play-offs has been all but secured for some time now. The Crew has hit a mini rough patch in October, but a six-game unbeaten run across August and September propelled the Black & Gold to the top of the table.
Caleb Porter’s men have slipped to third in the current standings, although they are still six points clear of sixth-place New England Revolution. Columbus will be confident of chasing down Toronto and Philadelphia, but the club will know that finishing in the top six is the main priority.
The Crew boasts the toughest defensive record in the Eastern Conference, so it’s hardly surprising that Porter’s side has only lost three of their 16 regular-season outings in 2020. I can’t see Cincinnati extending Columbus’ winless run any further.
FC Cincinnati vs. Columbus Crew Betting Pick
Columbus Crew to Win2.10
I can’t get over the top online soccer betting sites’ price for the away win here. Granted, Columbus has hit a spell of uncharacteristic form of late. But a trip to Cincinnati provides the Crew with an ideal opportunity to get back on track and return to winning ways.
The Ohio rivals have faced each other three times this year, and the aggregate scoreline sits at 7-0 in favor of Columbus. Need I say more?
