Fair Grounds Race Course Betting Picks – Wednesday, January 6, 2021

| January 5, 2021 12:33 pm PDT

Fair Grounds Race Course continues the racing week on Wednesday with nine maiden, claiming, and allowance matches.

Fair Grounds is closed to spectators, but a weather-induced switch from turf to the main track can mean a change in wagers, so here’s the forecast for Wednesday: Rain (80% chance), with temps in the upper 60s, and winds around 13 mph.

Read on for my Fair Grounds Race Course picks and tips for Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 6

This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $47,000.

While we can expect the competition in this race to be particularly fierce, I’m sticking with the 9/5 morning line favorite — Real News, ridden by Florent Geroux. This five-year-old gelding finished in the money seven of his 13 career starts, winning four. His career is full of stakes runs, and while most of his success has been at the Black Type level, he ran third in the Penn Mile Stakes (Grade II) at Penn National in June 2019.

The longest morning-line odds in this race are 8/1, so I don’t have a value show bet for us.

  •  Win: Real News 9/5

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 7

This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $51,000.

I’m in agreement with the morning line here, so my money is on the 3/1 favorite — Kadesh, with Gabriel Saez aboard. This four-year-old gelding moneyed five of his ten career starts, winning three.

The longest M/L odds in this race are 8/1, so again, no value show bet recommendation. Sad emoji.

  •  Win: Kadesh 3/1

Fair Grounds Race Course Picks for Race 8

This is a claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of about one mile on turf for a purse of $22,000.

I’m betting on one of the second-favored entries (there are two at 4/1) in this race — Take That for Data, with Miguel Mena in the irons. This six-year-old gelding finished in the money 11 of his 21 career starts, winning six.

There are a couple of 30/1 longshots in this race, but the longest I’d go on a value show wager is the 12/1 entry — Foldover, ridden by Adam Beschizza. This seven-year-old gelding moneyed 11 of his 19 career starts, winning eight.

  •  Win: Take That for Data 4/1
  •  Show: Foldover 12/1

More Racing Predictions for Wednesday

Fair Grounds was a little stingy with the value bets, but I found plenty more at the other two tracks I reviewed for Wednesday:
