Fair Grounds Race Course Picks – Friday, January 15, 2021

Fair Grounds Race Course delivers nine maiden, allowance, and claiming races for our Friday wagering pleasure.

While I review Friday’s three richest races at Fair Grounds here, remember that you can find their full nine-race card — including horses, jockeys, morning line odds, and wagering options — at one of our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Read on for my Fair Grounds Race Course picks and tips for Friday, January 15, 2021.

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 5

This is an allowance race for Louisiana-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $51,000.

My money is on one of the second-favored entries (there are two at 7/2) in this race — Saintsgotrobbed, with Colby Hernandez in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed both of his career starts, winning one.

For comparison, the 2/1 morning line favorite, Nunc Pro Tunc, most recently has been scoring second-and third-place finishes but hasn’t finished first since a three-win streak that ended 18 months ago.

I don’t see any longer-odds entries in this race that could turn a profit on a show bet, so let’s save our money for later.

  •  Win: Saintsgotrobbed 7/2

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 6

This is an allowance optional claiming race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $48,000.

My money is on the 7/5 morning line favorite, Mr. Al’s Gal, with Adam Beschizza aboard. This seven-year-old mare finished in the money 25 of her 34 career starts, winning 14.

The longest odds in this race are 8/1 (the morning line puts three entries at those odds), and I don’t see any among them that are likely to reach the finish line in time for any sort of payday.

  •  Win: Mr. Al’s Gal 7/5

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 7

This is a maiden special weight race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $50,000.

My money is on the third-favored (9/2) entry — Sister Annie, ridden by Florent Geroux. This filly moneyed both of her career starts, and her performance in recent workouts is better than that of the M/L favorite.

Incidentally, there are four horses tied for fourth-favorite (6/1 odds), and with the records for those four being rather disparate, I’d guess that the handicapper at Fair Grounds likes to check every now and then whether anyone is really paying any attention.

There are two 20/1 longshots in this race, and neither looks capable of doing much more than chasing the other horses across the finish line.

  •  Win: Sister Annie 9/2
