Fair Grounds Race Course Betting Picks for Saturday, February 20, 2021

| February 19, 2021 2:43 pm PDT

Fair Grounds has a full slate of thoroughbred races for our wagering pleasure on Saturday, and I take a close look at the three richest races to find the winners.

Remember that while I review the top three races here, you can find the entire Saturday race card for Fair Grounds at one of our best horse racing betting sites.

Read on for my Fair Grounds Race Course picks and tips for Saturday, February 20, 2021.

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 6

This is an allowance optional claiming race for Louisiana-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $57,000.

This will most likely be the tightest race of the day, but I’m sticking with the 3/1 morning line favorite — My Wise Cat, ridden by James Graham. This six-year-old finished in the money 20 of his 33 career starts, winning 11.

I don’t see any longer-odds entries finishing in the money for this race, so no value show bet recommendation.

  •  Win: My Wise Cat 3/1

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 8

This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $57,000.

The morning-line favorite in this race may have the better starting record, but I like Plus Que Parfait, with James Graham in the irons, for the win. This five-year-old ridgling moneyed nine of his 19 career starts, winning two. In this field, that earns him the second-favored position at 7/2 — but bare stats don’t tell the whole story.

Plus Que Parfait has moneyed in four of the stakes races he’s started, and he won the UAE Derby (Grade II) in 2019. More recently, he ran second in the Charles Town Classic Stakes (Grade II) last August.

As far as value show tickets are concerned, I don’t see any longer-odds entries here that could finish in the money, so let’s save ours.

  •  Win: Plus Que Parfait 7/2

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 10

This is a maiden special weight race for Louisiana-bred three-year-olds running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $55,000.

I’m backing one of the second-favored entries (there are two at 5/1) in this race — Fifty Protection, with Colby J. Hernandez aboard. This gelding moneyed three of his four career starts.

Plenty of longer-odds entries in this 11-horse field — there are six at 12/1, for instance — but I don’t see any worth the risk of a show wager.

  •  Win: Fifty Protection 5/1

While Fair Grounds Race Course yielded a couple of underdogs, remember that there are more profit opportunities at the other two tracks I reviewed for Saturday:
