Fair Grounds Race Course Picks – Friday, February 12, 2021
Fair Grounds Race Course’s nine-race card for Friday brings us the spectrum of thoroughbred racing ranging from maiden and starter races to allowance and bread-and-butter claiming matches.
Read on for my Fair Grounds Race Course picks and tips for Friday, February 12, 2021.
Fair Grounds Race Course Picks for Race 5
This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $56,000.
I touted the second-favored (3/1) entry, Boyfriend Material, to win a race at Fair Grounds yesterday (he was an also-eligible/MTO and late-scratched) — and I see no reason to change my mind about him for Friday.
This six-year-old gelding is the same horse today that he was yesterday, with the same solid record and even the same jockey (Declan Carroll). For the record, he moneyed 18 of his 24 career starts, winning seven.
And at 10/1, Lafitte’s Fleet, with Marcelino Pedroza aboard, looks good for a value show ticket. This four-year-old gelding moneyed eight of his 12 starts, winning one.
- Win: Boyfriend Material 3/1
- Show: Lafitte’s Fleet 10/1
Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 7
This is a maiden special weight race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $55,000.
I like one of the fourth-favored entries (there are two at 6/1) in this race — Bold Confection, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan. This filly finished in the money in her single career start by with a very close second-place last month at Fair Grounds.
None of the longer-odds entries in this maiden race show any indication they’ll do more than follow the other horses across the finish line, so save your long money for later.
- Win: Bold Confection 6/1
Fair Grounds Race Course Picks for Race 9
This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $56,000.
I like one of the third-favored entries (there are two at 9/2) in this race — Minute Waltz, with Gabriel Saez in the irons. This filly finished in the money all three of her career starts, breaking her maiden on her first start in October at Churchill Downs, following that with a third a month later, and then a second-place finish at Fair Grounds last month.
I can’t resist the 20/1 longshot She a Hot Mess, with Adam Beschizza aboard, for a value show wager. This filly moneyed both of her career starts, winning one. Incidentally, I touted her for that win back on December 28th, when she was the 9/5 favorite. Big risk-taker, me.
- Win: Minute Waltz 9/2
- Show: She a Hot Mess 20/1
