Fair Grounds Race Course Betting Picks – Thursday, February 11, 2021

| February 10, 2021 3:08 pm PDT

The Fair Grounds Race Course schedule for Thursday is mostly claiming and maiden races, and the purses are large enough to attract some seriously talented competition, both on the ground and in the irons.

Read on for my Fair Grounds Race Course picks and tips for Thursday, February 11, 2021.

Fair Grounds Race Course Picks for Race 2

This is an allowance optional claiming race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of about one mile on turf for a purse of $52,000.

Despite some misgivings, I’m backing the 3/1 morning line favorite in this race — Alliaceous, ridden by Santo Sanjur. This four-year-old filly won her first three starts and then dropped back to also-ran status for her next three starts, two of which were Black Type stakes races. Rightly or wrongly, I’m chalking that up to an overabundance of ambition on the part of her connections.

In any case, Alliaceous still has a better record than any others in this field.

And at 12/1, I like Thegreyspider, with Marcelino Pedroza aboard, for a value show wager. This six-year-old mare moneyed 17 of her 31 career starts, winning four.

  •  Win: Alliaceous 3/1
  •  Show: Thegreyspider 12/1

Fair Grounds Race Course Picks for Race 6

This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $51,000.

If the also-eligible/MTO entry (at 3/1) Boyfriend Material, ridden by Declan Carroll, starts this race, bet him to win. This six-year-old gelding finished in the money for 18 of his 24 career starts, winning seven.

If that doesn’t happen, then put your money on the 9/2 Yankee Seven, with Brian J. Hernandez, Jr. aboard. This five-year-old gelding moneyed six of his 13 career starts, winning three.

And at 15/1, I have to like Dreaming of Carats, with Marcelino Pedroza in the irons, for a value show bet. This four-year-old gelding moneyed five of his nine starts, winning one.

  •  Win: Boyfriend Material 3/1 (if starts)
  •  Win: Yankee Seven 9/2 (otherwise, if starts)
  •  Show: Dreaming of Carats 15/1

Fair Grounds Race Course Picks for Race 7

This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $57,000.

I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning line favorite — Cowboy Diplomacy, with Colby Hernandez aboard. This five-year-old gelding moneyed five of his eight career starts, winning two.

And in this field, I like the 20/1 longshot’s chances for a money finish, so your value show bet should be on Broth, ridden by Eddie Martin, Jr. This six-year-old moneyed seven of his 17 career starts, winning three.

  •  Win: Cowboy Diplomacy 5/2
  •  Show: Broth 20/1
