Fair Grounds Race Course Betting Picks – Saturday, December 19, 2020

| December 18, 2020 2:36 pm PDT

Fair Grounds Race Course delivers some serious competitive horse racing with the six ungraded stakes races on its ten-race schedule for Saturday.

I review all six stakes races at Fair Grounds for Saturday, but you can find their entire ten-race card — including horses, jockeys, M/L odds, and wagering options — at one of our top horse racing betting sites.

We’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s get right to my Fair Grounds Race Course picks and tips for Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Fair Grounds Race 4 Picks – Letellier Memorial Stakes

This is the Letellier Memorial Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for two-year-old fillies running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $75,000.

I’m sticking with the 6/5 morning line favorite — Joy’s Rocket, with Ricardo Santana Jr. in the irons. This filly finished in the money four of her five career starts, winning three, the most recent win the Songbird Stakes (Black Type) at Keeneland in early November.

And at 15/1, Moon Swag, ridden by James Graham, looks like a good show ticket. This filly won both of her career starts, the most recent being the Manzano Stakes (Black Type) in Albuquerque in September. You might even consider an across the board wager here, but I’m just recommending the value show bet.

  • Win: Joy’s Rocket 6/5
  • Show: Moon Swag 15/1

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 6 – Sugar Bowl Stakes

This is the Sugar Bowl Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for two-year-olds running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $75,000.

My money is on one of the second-favored entries (there are two at 3/1) in this race — Gagetown, with Florent Geroux aboard. This colt won his single career start, breaking his maiden at Churchill Downs in early November, and with much higher speed figures than his competitors.

There are three 12/1 entries in this seven-horse race, and while they will prove to be solid competition here, I don’t expect any of the three to finish near the money.

  • Win: Gagetown 3/1

Fair Grounds Race 7 Picks – Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes

This is the Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes, a stakes race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $75,000.

I think this will be a tight contest between the favorite and the second-favored horses, but I believe the win will go to the 7/2 morning line favorite — Archidust, ridden by Ricardo Santa, Jr. This four-year-old colt moneyed 12 of his 16 career starts, winning seven of them.

At 15/1, Embolden, with Angel Suarez in the irons, looks like a reasonable value show ticket against this field. This three-year-old colt finished in the money eight of his ten career starts, winning three.

  • Win: Archidust 7/2
  • Show: Embolden 15/1

Fair Grounds Race 9 Pick – Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes

This is the Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $75,000.

I like the fourth-favored (5/1) entry in this turf race — Sailing Solo, with Mitch Murrill aboard. This five-year-old finished in the money 12 of his 15 career starts, winning seven of them, most recently two Black Type stakes races at Gulfstream Park (July and September, respectively).

I see no money finishes for any of the longer-odds entries here, so save your long money for later.

  • Win: Enforceable 5/2

Fair Grounds Race 11 Picks – Blushing K. D. Stakes

This is the Blushing K. D. Stakes, and ungraded stakes race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $75,000.

I’m backing the 5/2 morning line favorite in this race — Secret Message, ridden by Florent Geroux. This five-year-old mare moneyed 10 of her 19 career starts, winning six.

And I like the 20/1 longshot Aife, with Shaun Bridgmohan aboard, for my value show bet recommendation. This six-year-old mare finished in the money 22 of her 29 career starts, winning seven.

  • Win: Secret Message 5/2
  • Show: Aife 20/1

Fair Grounds Race Course Pick for Race 13 — Tenacious Stakes

This is the Tenacious Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $75,000.

I’m going to have to stick with the 8/5 morning line favorite in this race — Maxfield, with Florent Geroux in the irons. This three-year-old colt won all three of his career starts, most recently the Matt Winn Stakes (Grade III) at Churchill Downs in May; he also won the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (Grade I) in October 2019.

The longest odds in this seven-horse race are 12/1, and I don’t see any of the longer-odds entries finishing in the money here.

  • Win: Maxfield 5/2
