Exeter vs. Racing 92 – 2020 ERCC Final Betting Preview

| October 9, 2020 11:34 pm PDT

The 2020 European Rugby Champions Cup Final between Exeter and Racing 92 is scheduled for Saturday, October 17 at Ashton Gate. And what a game this should turn out to be.

It is Exeter’s first-ever appearance in a European Champions Cup final, having put Toulouse to the sword in the semis. I predicted that Exeter would come through with the win, and fans have been delighted to turn Toulouse over by 28-18.

I also predicted that Racing 92 would find a way past defending champions Saracens. The Englishmen were bushwhacked by a Juan Imhoff try in the 76th minute. They enter their second final in two years, following a 15-12 loss to Leinster in 2018.

So, who wins the 2020 ERCC Final? Let’s check out the odds and team news before I deliver my prediction for the big match.

Exeter vs. Racing 92 Odds

Exeter Chiefs to Win-200
Racing 92 to Win+170

The odds for the ERCC final have been released, with Exeter -200 favorites to clinch the title.

Racing’s odds to win are -170, which look very appealing at first glance. The Parisians overcame Clermont and Saracens to get here, and have won 8 of their last 10 matches.

Exeter has been the big story this season. Rob Baxter’s side fully deserves their spot in the final, but it won’t be easy against the Frenchmen. Given that they will play at Ashton Gate in Bristol — around a 75-minute drive from their home stadium in Sandy Park — it might feel a little like a home advantage to the English team.

As for injuries, Jack Nowell will miss Exeter’s Gallagher Premiership semi-final with a foot problem. He is, however, expected to feature in the ERCC final.

Racing recently confirmed that a number of positive tests could hamper their preparations for the final. It appears that the game should go ahead, but I will update this page if anything changes in the interim.

So, who wins? Exeter or Racing? Here are my prediction and pick for the match.

Why Exeter Will Win the 2020 ERCC

They have been knocking on the door of major success for a long time, and it seems like the tide has finally changed for the Chiefs.

While the Gallagher Premiership title would be an excellent addition to the trophy room, I would be very surprised if the European Rugby Champions Cup wasn’t the main point of focus.

From 1 to 15, Exeter has a real sense of congruity that other teams have failed to match this season. Except for Leinster, who were hammered by Saracens in the first half of their semi-final, they have been the most impressive team in Europe this year.

Racing comes into this one with very appealing odds. As previously mentioned, they are 8 of 10 in all competitions. But away from home, they have only won six of their past ten games.

One of the main reasons for choosing Exeter over Toulouse in their semi-final was the French side’s poor away record and the Chief’s strength at home. I think we will see a similar showing from Exeter on October 17, even if Ashton Gate isn’t exactly Sandy Park.

I predict Exeter to scrape it and to pick up a win by 5 points. You can get odds of -125 with the best rugby betting sites for this bet.

Final Thoughts

Will Exeter beat Racing 92 to the 2020 European Rugby Champions Cup? I believe that they have what it takes to go all the way, but it won’t be easy.
