Everton vs. Crystal Palace – English Premier League, April 5, 2021

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that Everton was looking like it could qualify for Europe, and Palace had a relegation fight on its hands. Now, these two come together on Monday for a mid-table clash.

That is probably about right for both clubs, but there is some hope for the future – Everton in particular. This could end up being an entertaining game.

With Palace just about safe for another season, there is a chance that it will roll over for Everton on Monday. Whether that happens or not, the BetOnline prices look just about right to me.

A home win for the Toffees would seem to be the more likely outcome at Goodison Park.

Everton vs. Crystal Palace Match Preview

Since the turn of the year, a poor run of form has probably ended Everton’s hopes of qualifying for Europe this season. There have been some real highlights – especially the Merseyside derby win at Anfield – but the early season promise has disappeared to leave Everton out of the running now.

The FA Cup dream also ended just before the international break, but the defeat to Manchester City only continued some very disappointing performances from Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Hopefully, the players will have used the break to concentrate on the basics and will come out fighting on Monday.

It will be interesting to see whether Crystal Palace are similarly enthusiastic about this game – and the remainder of the season.

The Eagles were suffering without Wilfried Zaha a couple of months ago but have seemed recharged recently.

The games might not have been the most exciting, but the points coming in have saved the club’s top-flight status.

Although there was a crushing defeat at the Spurs’ hands, the win against West Brom in the last game before the break was just the tonic. Now Palace can go into its last nine games of the season knowing that there are at least three worse teams in the league. Whether it plays to its abilities now is another question entirely.

Everton vs. Crystal Palace Pick

  • Everton to Win

I think that there is a huge question mark over how Palace will approach this game. I have far more faith in Carlo Ancelotti getting across to his players how they could still play a part in the race for Europe.

That’s why this should finish as a home win – and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will want to start performing like he was at the start of the campaign.
