EuroLeague Round 14 Betting Tips & Predictions for Thursday, December 9
It’s time for the 14th round of the 2021-22 EuroLeague! There are five games on the program this Thursday, three of which I will preview in this post.
The games in question are the following:
- Bayern Munich vs. Anadolu Efes
- Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. UNICS Kazan
- Crvena Zvezda vs. Olympiacos
What about the other two games? I will share my betting tips for those as well, while at the very bottom of the post, I’ll reveal my best bets of the day.
Anadolu Efes to Beat Bayern Munich
Anadolu Efes is the reigning EuroLeague champion. The Turkish team won it last season when they went 22-12. Of those 12 defeats, two happened against Bayern Munich. In fact, the last time they won against this opponent was in February 2020.
Online sportsbooks, however, think Efes will end that disappointing run this Thursday. I agree entirely and there are several reasons for that.
First of all, Efes has switched to top gear in the EuroLeague after an embarrassingly slow start. This team is 4-1 in the past five rounds, with their only loss happening last week.
That’s when Efes lost to Barcelona in overtime, even though some of their players played great throughout the game. You can see what I’m talking about in the video below.
Another reason why I see the Turks winning on Thursday is that Efes has much better players than Bayern. The reigning EuroLeague MVP Vasilije Micic is their key man, and he’s started playing top basketball.
Last week, we saw him scoring 26 points against Barcelona, more than any other player in that game. He also made five rebounds and four assists.
The best thing about Efes’ recent form is that it’s not all about Micic. This team is not a one-man army; they got plenty of other amazing players on the roster – Shane Larkin, Rodrigue Beaubois, Tibor Pleiss, and others.
Maccabi Tel Aviv to Beat UNICS Kazan
Maccabi’s recent run looks terrible with a 1-4 record in the past couple of weeks. However, things aren’t as bad as they seem. The thing is that all of those four losses happened on the road. No surprise there as this team is not very good in away games.
When Maccabi’s playing home, it’s a whole different story. They’re riding on an eight-game win series at Tel Aviv’s Menora Mivtachim Arena. When it comes to their EuroLeague record, they’re 5-1 at home.
Their only home loss happened to Crvena Zvezda, which you can think of as a glitch. The evidence is that Maccabi has defeated tougher teams in Israel, namely:
- Bayern Munich (69-68) in Round 1
- Panathinaikos (77-73) in Round 5
- Zalgiris Kaunas (76-62) in Round 6
- Barcelona (85-68) in Round 7
- Monaco (95-84) in Round 10
Maccabi’s overall record is 7-6, which is exactly the same record as UNICS Kazan. The Russian team has a better score differential, which is why they’re placed one spot higher in the EuroLeague standings.
I think that will change on Thursday. My betting prediction is that Maccabi will beat UNICs without any problems.
Olympiacos to Beat Crvena Zvezda
Strange – this is the word that best explains the form of Crvena Zvezda in the 2021-22 EuroLeague. This team is 5-8 on the season, which isn’t that surprising. What’s surprising is that we saw them slaying some giants, while also losing to some major underdogs.
In their most recent EuroLeague game, Crvena Zvezda defeated Zenit Petersburg in Russia. They won 69-58 in a game in which they were 9-point dogs.
Zvezda’s most recent defeat also made basketball fans surprised. It happened in Round 12 when they welcomed UNICS Kazan at Stark Arena in Belgrade. The hosts were 3-point favorites pre-game but ended up losing by 20 points.
This Thursday, online sportsbooks see Zvezda as an underdog; are we going to see another upset? I don’t think so. Olympiacos is an ambitious bunch with the EuroLeague title on their minds.
The Greek team is 9-4 on the season, coming to Belgrade after three straight wins in this competition. They’re currently in the #3 spot in the EuroLeague, but a win on Thursday would mean making one giant step toward the top spot.
Olympiacos has only two wins fewer than both Barcelona and Real Madrid, the teams that occupy the two top spots. Both are 11-2 right now, but one will suffer the third defeat of the season on Friday – Barcelona and Real Madrid lock horns on Friday.
EuroLeague Basketball Picks for the Other Two Thursday Games
- Fenerbahce to Beat Zenit Petersburg
- ASVEL Lyon to Beat Baskonia
These two games seem very tricky to predict. Oddsmakers see the hosts as the favorites in both games, but my prediction is that the visitors will win. I just think that Fenerbahce and Lyon have better players than their rivals.
Still, I wouldn’t bet on those two. If you would like to see which bets I’m planning to make on Thursday, then you ought to check out the section below.
My EuroLeague Round 14 Best Bets for Thursday
888sport is the online sportsbook I used for the EuroLeague odds. The odds on all three bets look pretty decent, which makes them great for singles. Still, this sportsbook also lets you parlay those bets. In that case, the cumulative odds would be nearly 3.50.
