EuroLeague Predictions and Best Bets for March 11, 2021

| March 10, 2021 10:26 am PDT

The 2020-21 EuroLeague season is nearing the end, and the race for the top spot in the standings is as tense as ever.

Play resumes on Thursday, March 11th, with 10 teams in action. See who is facing off before placing any bets.

  • CSKA vs. Milano
  • Panathinaikos vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv
  • Asvel Lyon vs. Alba Berlin
  • Crvena Zvezda vs. Khimki
  • Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona

Mike James leads CSKA Moscow up against Olimpia Milano, as he tries to close the gap between his team and the first place Barcelona.

Nikola Mirotic and Barcelona have other ideas, of course, as they face Real Madrid and try to hang onto first place in the EuroLeague standings.

My EuroLeague picks went a solid 3-1 to close things out last Friday, and the goal is to hand out more winners today. With that, let’s take a quick look at all five games, and see which way you may want to bet on Thursday.

CSKA vs. Milan Predictions

  • CSKA to beat Milano
  • Predicted total: 160-165

CSKA are 2-1 since getting star scorer Mike James back. They got trounced in a big game against Anadolu Efes last week, though, so I think they’ll refocus and get back on track here.

James hasn’t had a big game since his return, but he dropped 20 points and 11 dimes in a 91-87 win over Milan earlier this year.

I think James gets it going in this one, while the continued absence of Malcolm Delaney doesn’t help Milan’s depth.

Panathinaikos vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv Predictions

  • Panathinaikos to beat Maccabi Tel Aviv
  • Predicted total: 155-160

You’re looking at two of the worst teams in the league based only on record. Both of these teams have been really competitive lately, however, so I expect a good one.

Normally I’d be down on Panathinaikos due to the absence of star guard Nemanja Nedovic, but the arrival of Mario Hezonja gives this team a nice lift.

Panathinaikos also has the size and talent advantage down low, and they just feel like the more complete team right now.

Maccabi Tel Aviv gets the tip of the cap for downing Valencia in their last outing, but they’d lost four in a row before that. I think they regress here.

Asvel Lyon vs. Alba Berlin Predictions

  • Asvel Lyon to beat Alba Berlin
  • Predicted total: 150-155

This has the look of a “get right” game for Asvel Lyon. They’ve dropped two in a row against solid Zalgiris and Fenerbahce squads, but Alba Berlin gives them a winnable game.

Asvel had been on a tear prior to these last two losses, turning their season around with seven consecutive victories.

This is a mismatch on both ends. Norris Cole gives Asvel the edge at guard with Berlin likely down Jayson Granger, but Berlin is tougher down low.

Cole gives me a little more confidence up front, and Asvel has been the better team lately. They also should be interested in avenging a tight 76-75 loss from earlier this season.

Crvena Zvezda vs. Khimki Predictions

  • Crvena to beat Khimki
  • Predicted total: 160-165

Khimki wins one game and suddenly I’m excited to bet on them. They are a lot of fun in terms of offense and pace, of course.

That said, I don’t think I can back them here, especially if Alexey Shved can’t suit up. He sat out the team’s last game, and missed one not too long ago.

With Shev possibly out or not operating at 100%, Khimki goes from a borderline upset play to pretty unappealing.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like Crvena is trustworthy. They’ve won just four more games that Khimki on the year, and haven’t won since round 19.

But if a showdown with Khimki isn’t a great opportunity to snap a skid, what is? The Over stands out the most in this game, but you’re probably spending too much to get anything back with Crvena (-307) in this spot.

Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona Predictions

  • Barcelona to beat Real Madrid
  • Predicted total: 150-155

If you have blindly bet on Barcelona this year, it largely went just fine. They’ve won 20 games on the season, and sit atop the entire league at the moment.

Barcelona has had some shocking losses, but they’re now at full strength and approaching the stretch run. Another stumble or two, and they could give up first place.

I expect them to play with more focus moving forward, while they also brought in some serious experience and leadership with the return of Pau Gasol.

Real Madrid is still down feisty point guard Sergio Llull, and they lost 79-72 even when they were in a better spot earlier this year.

Best EuroLeague Bets for Thursday, March 11th

  • CSKA Moscow to Win (-213)
  • Barcelona to Win (-151)

Usually I like to give you at least 3-4 EuroLeague picks I’m high on, but Thursday’s games just aren’t getting me where I need to go.

The totals and spreads are mostly a bit too tight for my liking, leaving bettors very little wiggle room. I’ll stick to moneyline bets here, and if you want to do the same, you can just go with my EuroLeague predictions above.

CSKA and Barcelona just feel like locks. They’re the superior teams in their matchups, and they can’t afford to lose right now as they jockey for position up top.

Khimki Moscow (+257) is an interesting underdog bet if Alexey Shved is healthy, but he missed the team’s last domestic game. I’d stick with the two bets listed here, and hope Friday offers some better EuroLeague wagers to target.

Whatever you do, just make sure you’re betting at the safest sports betting sites you can find online.
