EuroLeague Predictions and Best Bets – January 8, 2021

| January 8, 2021 4:20 am PDT

EuroLeague basketball returned from a holiday with one game on Wednesday, and Thursday offered the first full slate of 2021.

Four more games hit the hardwood on Friday. Let’s see who is in action.

  • Khimki Moscow vs. Zalgiris
  • Bayern Munich vs. Olympiakos
  • Anadolu Efes vs. Asvel Lyon
  • Olimpia Milano vs. Real Madrid

This slate has some solid star power, and some potentially really competitive, high-scoring games. None really touch the Khimki Moscow game when it comes to upside, as it pulls in a hefty 169.5 total at BetOnline.

Should you bet the Over? I’ll answer that and more in my EuroLeague predictions and top betting picks for Friday, January 8th, 2021.

Khimki Moscow vs. Zalgiris Predictions

  • Zalgiris to beat Khimki Moscow
  • Predicted total: 165-170

Khimki Moscow continues to struggle this year, as they have the worst record in EuroLeague at a paltry 2-15.

Alexey Shved keeps things interesting and gives them a chance every time out, but their defense burns them so much.

I think there’s a real shot at the Over and a close game, but if you just want a winner, it’s obviously way easier to trust the more balanced Zalgiris.

Bayern Munich vs. Olympiakos Predictions

  • Bayern Munich to beat Olympiacos
  • Predicted total: 155-160

This is a fairly evenly matched game, but Bayern Munich is still the far better team in terms of record (11-6). Wade Baldwin IV has played well and helped his squad to a 4-2 record in his last six games, and went off with 29 points in his last outing.

Baldwin dropped 18 points in a previous meeting with Olympiacos, who don’t really present much of a challenge for guards.

Olympiacos has the much tougher matchup, and the possibility they’ll be down a guard in Shaquielle McKissic doesn’t help matters.

Anadolu Efes vs. Asvel Lyon Predictions

  • Anadolu Efes to beat Asvel Lyon
  • Predicted total: 155-160

This is honestly a bit of a toss-up, as Shane Larkin has not played well, while Anadolu Efes has won just once in their last five tries with him in the lineup.

Neither of these teams are really getting it done this season, but Larkin still offers so much upside, and he has the better team around him. Asvel Lyon offers way better value at home, but I prefer Larkin and co. here.

Olimpia Milano vs. Real Madrid Predictions

  • Real Madrid to beat Olimpia Milano
  • Predicted total: 155-160

Real Madrid totally moved past the departure of Facundo Campazzo, as they’re now 12-5 and own the second best record in EuroLeague play.

Their balance and depth continue to tire opponents out, as they have several guys who can work it down low. The team could miss the veteran Sergio Llull, who is expected to sit out on Friday, of course.

Best EuroLeague Bets for Friday, January 8th

  • Khimki Moscow (+7) -116
  • Bayern Munich to Win (+155)
  • Anadolu Efes vs. Asvel Lyon Over 156.5 (-102)
  • Olimpia Milano (+5.5) -113

Alexey Shved always makes a believer out of me. Khimki Moscow is impossible to trust to the point of a true upset, but they push the pace and put points on the board.

Feel free to aim high with the Over in that one, but the main bet with them is this 7-point spread. I think they can do enough to give Zalgiris a game. Flat out winning it, however, isn’t something I’m willing to predict.

Another bet I love is Bayern Munich to win at this cool +155 price at They’re on the road, but they’re the better team and this price is fantastic.

Anadolu Efes probably wins on Friday, but they’re on the road, their spread is a little thick, and you need to lay some cash to bet on them (-270). Those could be winning bets, but I see a lot of offense in that game, so I’ll just bet on Norris Cole and Shane Larkin having a shootout.

Real Madrid is probably winning, but they’re down a veteran guard, and their moneyline at the top basketball betting sites (-247) isn’t anything to get excited about. Olimpia Milano has the depth and veteran play to give it a go here, and I think they can beat a respectable 5.5-point spread.

Hopefully my EuroLeague betting picks help you out to close out the week. For any other bets, refer to my predictions and blurbs. Happy betting!
