EuroLeague Predictions and Best Bets – February 4, 2021

| February 4, 2021 1:59 am PDT

EuroLeague basketball is finally back on Thursday. I’ve truly missed it, as I was last able to hand out my EuroLeague picks on Friday.

They went swimmingly, with Bayern Munich (+7) and Asvel Lyon (+156!) getting me two winners out of four picks.

Thursday’s EuroLeague schedule has been derailed with two games being cancelled, but there are still two contests to bet on.

See who is in action on Thursday.

  • CSKA Moscow vs. Valencia
  • Anadolu Efes vs. FC Barcelona

EuroLeague fans will weep over not getting to see Alexey Shved in action, but Khimki Moscow was slated to be massive 13-point underdogs.

Perhaps they deserve the break. There is still reason to get excited here, as the league’s two best teams are in action.

Let’s take a closer look at both of these contests and see how you may want to bet in Thursday’s EuroLeague predictions and top betting picks.

CSKA Moscow vs. Valencia Predictions

  • CSKA Moscow to beat Valencia
  • Predicted total: 160-165

Thursday’s slate fires off both games at the exact same time, but the first game to discuss is this showdown between CSKA Moscow and Valencia Basket.

Valencia was solid earlier in the year, but they’ve since plummeted with a nasty 1-6 record over their last seven contests. They’ve had numerous lopsided losses, as their offense hasn’t been up to snuff, and their defense has been downright ghastly.

I struggle to see how any of that magically changes against one of the best teams in the league.

CSKA Moscow survived a scare with star guard Mike James, as an internal issue almost turned so sour that the two sides parted ways. That didn’t happen, though, as both sides came together to reverse course.

It looks like James will be back in action on Thursday, and he’ll give CSKA Moscow a big jolt on offense. He was solid for them in a win over Valencia earlier in the year, and I don’t see much reason to doubt he would be again here.

With James back in the fold, CSKA Moscow remains a good bet in basically every game they play.

Of course, it’s absolutely worth noting that the team is ailing down low, with Nikola Milutinov out for the year and Tornike Shengelia set to miss “several matches” with a knee issue.

Wade Clyburn also remains out, as the big man last played on December 22nd.

None of this is great news for CSKA Moscow, but Mike James could be back at just the right time for them.

Anadolu Efes vs. FC Barcelona Predictions

  • FC Barcelona to beat Anadolu Efes
  • Predicted total: 155-160

I wouldn’t usually give Anadolu Efes much of a chance in this spot. FC Barcelona is back in first place at 17-6, and they’re at full strength now that Nikola Mirotic is healthy again.

Barcelona has been clicking lately, too. After a little three-game skid, they’ve snapped out of their funk, winning each of their last six games.

In that stretch, they’ve put up 72+ points each time out, with 76+ in five of those games.

Anadolu Efes did run all over Barcelona (86-79) in the previous matchup this year, but they shot almost 58% and Shane Larkin was unstoppable with 23 points and eight assists.

Larkin is dealing with a groin injury right now and may not suit up for this one.

I kind of love Barcelona no matter what happens. They’re in a groove, they might be looking for some payback, and Larkin not playing would give them a massive boost.

All things considered, you can entertain Anadolu ATS if Larkin is in, but I’m mostly going Barcelona across the board, and hammering the Over.

Best EuroLeague Bets for Thursday, February 4th

  • Anadolu Efes vs. Barcelona Over 158 (-120)
  • Barcelona (-7) -107
  • CSKA Moscow to Win (-116)

This is by nature a super volatile slate, but for now, EuroLeague bettors have two games to work with, so they might as well proceed with their bets.

Even with just two games, this slate could admittedly go in a number of directions. This is definitely a day where you’ll want to keep tabs on injuries and any other roster news, with the Larkin status having a pretty big say in how the Anadolu game may transpire.

For now, I’m siding with Barcelona there, as they can easily cover regardless, and the last meeting’s production makes this total look rather laughable.

Mike James is another name to watch, but if he’s back, I’m all for backing CSKA Moscow to get the win. They’re obviously hurting at forward, but the return of Mike James is enough to get me to pull the trigger here.
