Energetik-BGU vs. Isloch – Belarusian Premier League, September 26, 2020

Isloch looks to continue its remarkable winning run this weekend as it makes the short trip to fellow Minsk side Energetik-BGU.

The Students have fallen away from the top of the table in recent weeks and look like needing a win here if they are to keep their European hopes alive.

Energetik-BGU vs. Isloch Odds

Energetik-BGU to Win +250
The Draw +268
Isloch to Win -109

It was only around a month or two ago that the odds for this fixture would have been far closer as both clubs were chasing third place. But it is Isloch that has really kicked into gear recently and MyBookie has priced the game accordingly. I think it will still be a fairly close affair though, so the odds for the draw do look interesting.

Energetik-BGU vs. Isloch Match Preview

Three straight defeats in the middle of July look to have ended Energetik-BGU’s dreams of qualifying for Europe this season, although there has been an improvement since then. But the club is now ten points behind Neman Grodno and that is a lot to make up with just seven games left in the season.

The return to the league last after three weeks away last Saturday ended in defeat when Energetik-BGU lost 2-1 to reigning champions, Dynamo Brest. But the season can probably be regarded as a success by manager Vladimir Belyavskiy, as it is a relative minnow compared to the big clubs in the league.

Isloch is another of the smaller clubs in the division but has timed a winning streak to perfection, as it goes into its last six games of the campaign just three points off the European places. Although the majority of the opponents in the six-game run have been from lower down the table, the highlight is undoubtedly the 4-2 win against Shakhtyor Soligorsk.

That result upset Shakhtyor’s title aspirations but did wonders for Isloch’s hopes – and the back-to-back victories over Belshina and Dinamo Minsk in the last two weeks have continued the good form.

Prediction and Betting Pick

  • The Draw

A mid table finish would seem to be just about right for Energetik-BGU after the excitement of earlier in the season.

Results have been too inconsistent to expect any more than that. But the Students do play an attractive brand of soccer and give most teams a good game on their day – that’s why the draw is a distinct possibility on Saturday.
