Dominic Thiem vs. Nick Kyrgios – Round 3, 2021 Australian Open

| February 11, 2021 4:38 am PDT

Dominic Thiem entered the Australian Open 2021 as one of the favorites, and his performance in the first two rounds confirmed this status. The Austrian is flying, but he is about to face the first tough hurdle in Nick Kyrgios.

The eccentric Australian has been shaky so far, but he often elevates his game against top-notch opponents like the world number three.

I analyze both players in this Dominic Thiem vs. Nick Kyrgios betting preview. The post also includes the latest odds, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

Thiem vs. Kyrgios Odds

Thiem to win -440
Kyrgios to win +360
Thiem (-5.5) -107
Kyrgios (+5.5) -113
Over 37.5 -111
Under 37.5 -109

The Dominic Thiem vs. Nick Kyrgios odds of the best tennis betting apps are hardly a surprise. They view the Austrian as a favorite in this clash, which is expected given the trajectory of both players in the past two seasons.

Dominic Thiem Analysis and Form

At the early stage of Dominic Thiem’s career, most people viewed him as a pure clay-court specialist. The Austrian proved them wrong by elevating his game on all surfaces, and he even won his first Grand Slam on hard last season.

Thiem’s confidence is off the charts nowadays, and he looks hungry for more titles at the biggest stage. He was one of my picks for the potential winner in my Australian Open 2021 preview before the start of the tournament.

That’s why I’m glad that Thiem won his first two matches in Melbourne without losing a set and looked strong in the process.

His second clash was especially dominant, and the Austrian lost only six games against Dominic Koepfer.

I’m sure that Kyrgios won’t be such an easy opponent, but Thiem’s form suggests that it would take someone like Djokovic or Medvedev to stop him at the Australian Open.

Nick Kyrgios Analysis and Form

You never know what to expect from Nick Kyrgios. The Australian barely made it to the third round after a five-setter against Ugo Humbert in which his opponent had a couple of match points.

That’s hardly a surprise if you consider how inconsistent Kyrgios has been since the start of the season and during his whole career, actually.

You can’t expect him to stay close to his best over the full duration of a match that’s in the best-of-five format.

That’s the reason why you never see Kyrgios in the late stages of Grand Slam competitions. He can’t compete with elite opponents, and that’s exactly what Thiem is.

Thiem vs. Kyrgios Betting Pick

Kyrgios might have a strong set or two, but he can’t keep it up with Dominic Thiem. I expect a relatively comfortable victory for the favorite, and I’m slightly surprised by the -5.5 line offered by the betting sites.

The Austrian should be able to cover the handicap comfortably, and the price of -107 looks like the best pick for this match.
