Prediction for Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks – Monday, April 25th, 2022
A pair of NL West teams will face off Monday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. This will be their first series of the season. Los Angeles had their way with Arizona last season, winning 16 of 19 games.
The Dodgers are off to a strong start, holding an 11-4 record. The Diamondbacks haven’t been terrible, but a 6-10 record isn’t what you’d like.
I have a feeling we all know who is the favorite in this matchup. Let’s see how the odds look for the Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks.

Honestly, I’m surprised that the best MLB sportsbooks don’t have the Los Angeles Dodgers as a bigger favorite. The MLB doesn’t typically have a big discrepancy, but you’d think the Dodgers would have a larger edge over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Los Angeles has been the best team against the spread in 2022. The Dodgers and New York Mets are the only teams to cover 11 times, but the Mets have played two more games. Arizona hasn’t been bad themselves, covering in nine of their 16 games.
The Dodgers have a host of injuries to their pitching staff, but their offense is good to go. Jordan Luplow could make his Diamondbacks debut after missing the start of the season with an oblique injury.
Who will come out on top on Monday night? Let’s preview the Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks.
Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Preview
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks came into the season with very different expectations. The preseason 2022 World Series odds had the Dodgers as the favorite to win their second title in three years. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks hoped to improve upon their disastrous 52-win 2021 season.
It was surprising to see the Dodgers drop two of three games in their season-opening series. However, they’ve bounced back to hold the best record in the majors.
Many people felt the Dodgers could have a historically great season because of their dominant offense and pitching. So far, both units have lived up to the hype.
- Runs Scored: 82 (2nd)
- Runs Allowed: 38 (1st)
How does a team compete with that? It’s tough, but we’ve seen the Dodgers lose four games. It might not seem like it, but they’re beatable.
The Diamondbacks rank in the bottom half of the majors in both runs scored and allowed. However, their offense is really holding them back, scoring 49 runs. Only the Cincinnati Reds have scored fewer runs in the NL.
Arizona has a few power hitters, with Christian Walker and Daulton Varsho each hitting four home runs. Seth Beer’s .341 batting average ranks top 10 in the NL.
Los Angeles will send ace Walker Buehler to the mound, while Arizona will counter with Merrill Kelly. One would think the Dodgers would have the upper hand, but take a quick look at their ERA.
- Walker Buehler: 4.02 ERA
- Merrill Kelly: 0.59 ERA
There aren’t any asterisks with either pitcher. Buehler has allowed at least two runs in his three starts. Kelly has allowed one run in three starts, despite facing the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres.
It’ll be interesting to see if Kelly keeps up his success against a great Dodgers lineup.
Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Same Game Parlay
- Merrill Kelly to Record 5+ Strikeouts (+130)
- Trea Turner to Record a Hit (-320)
- Cody Bellinger to Record an RBI (+150)
We’re taking a pair of Los Angeles Dodgers hitters and Arizona Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly for my same game parlay. Feel free to go for the big payout or wager on each prop individually.
We talked about Kelly’s surprising start to the 2022 season. He has at least five strikeouts in all three games. The Dodgers have a high-powered offense, but they’re prone to strikeouts.
Los Angeles has struck out at least five times against the opposing team’s starter in their last two games. Kelly has been on fire this season, so I feel comfortable taking an alternate line for a little more value. He should hang tough against the Dodgers.
He only has six career at-bats against Kelly, but he has recorded a hit twice. Turner maximizes his opportunities by hitting high in the Dodgers lineup. He shouldn’t have an issue recording a hit off Kelly.
Cody Bellinger is coming off his best game, slugging two home runs and four RBIs in a victory over the San Diego Padres. He has looked much better since starting the season 2-14. Now he draws a great matchup.
Bellinger is 5-14 with two home runs and four RBIs against Kelly. That should make you feel good about his chances to record an RBI. He has plenty of quality bats ahead of him in the lineup.
Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Pick
Dodgers to Win-169
Honestly, I thought about taking the Arizona Diamondbacks. Merrill Kelly has been fantastic in 2022, and they have a few quality bats in their lineup. Still, I can’t pick the Diamondbacks against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Walker Buehler hasn’t been his usual self this year, but it’s only a matter of time before he turns it around. Hopefully, Los Angeles’ offense will solve Kelly.
