Top DFS Picks for the 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship

| September 28, 2021 11:06 am PDT

If you were hoping to ride one of the Americans who was victorious at Whistling Straits, you’ll have to wait another week. US Ryder Cup assistant captain Zach Johnson has journeyed to the Magnolia State, although no top-20s since March take ZJ out of the equation. At least they do for me when I’m endorsing my best DFS picks for the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Sam Burns and Will Zalatoris are guys I typically target in fantasy golf, however, spending upwards of $11k on each when they’ll both be extremely popular – that’s not my cup of tea.

Here are some names I like this week at the Country Club of Jackson.

*Prices reflect the player’s salary on DraftKings

Harold Varner III – $9,200

Looking for a hot golfer just below the top tier? Harold Varner III has finished 16th or better in five of his last seven starts, including three straight upon arrival. Going back to Friday at the Barracuda Championship, HVII has ripped off 15 consecutive tournament rounds at par or better. His scoring average during the stretch is 67.93.

Coming off a year in which he ranked 5th in total driving efficiency and 26th in SG: Approach, a first PGA Tour victory seems all but imminent.

Cam Davis – $9,100

The winner of the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic cruises into the week, beaming with confidence. Not only did the ambidextrous Aussie win in thrilling fashion in Detroit, but Davis made every cut since and performed favorably in the FedEx Cup Playoffs (T31 at THE NORTHERN TRUST; T29 at the BMW Championship).

What makes Cam a specifically intriguing play on DK is his propensity to fill his scorecard up with red numbers.

Davis ranked 2nd on the PGA Tour last season in eagle average and 22nd in birdie average.

Aaron Wise – $8,300

After digging into Aaron Wise’s T17 finish at this event last season, I was enthralled to find out that Wise gained north of three strokes with his flat stick. He ended the week ranked 12th in putts per GIR; perhaps there’s something about these greens that suits Aaron’s eye.

On that note, I suggest locking him in as one of your Sanderson Farms Championship DFS picks.

After all, Wise is one of the most respected ball-strikers on tour (9th last season in GIR) and has been trending in the right direction.

Aaron Wise is Heating Up – Last Three Starts
Date Event Score (in relation to par) Result
8/15/21 Wyndham Championship -7 T46
8/22/21 THE NORTHERN TRUST -10 T21
8/29/21 BMW Championship -15 T17

Matthias Schwab – $8,000

With just 12 PGA Tour starts under his belt, Matthias Schwab is a relatively unknown commodity in the United States. Having said that, don’t be surprised if he’s a household name by the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Austrian has finished runner-up twice on the European Tour and is currently riding a wave of momentum. Schwab recently finished 4th at the Boise Open and 8th at the KFT Championship – those results helped Matthias stamp his ticket to the PGA Tour this season. Most recently, Schwab landed T12 against a loaded field at the BMW PGA Championship.

Scott Stallings – $7,700

Those grinding DFS picks for the Sanderson Farms Championship, you’re probably studying course history and looking at recent form. Let me help you out.

  • Scott Stallings finished T6 at the Country Club of Jackson in 2020 after gaining 9.428 strokes from tee to green. He carded just one bogey over his final 38 holes.
  • Last time out, Stallings finished T6 at the Fortinet Championship and had all facets of his game in order.

Scott’s won three times before, and here’s a tidbit that’ll pique the interest for those playing fantasy golf on DraftKings.

Stallings is one of three PGA Tour players in the last 15 years (Dustin Johnson, J.T. Poston) to win while registering more eagles than bogeys.

Any more questions?

Patrick Rodgers – $7,600

After finishing 128th in the FedEx Cup standings, it would have been easy for Patrick Rodgers to be discouraged as he drifted into the offseason. Instead, the former standout at Stanford buckled down earned his PGA Tour card back via the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.

Clearly invigorated with his second chance, Rodgers parlayed his momentum into a T6 showing at the 2021 Fortinet Championship. Worth noting, Patrick played bogey-free golf over the weekend.

Armed with top-20s in three of his last four appearances, don’t look past the world’s 181st-ranked player picking up a W this week. The average world ranking of the Sanderson Farms Championship winner over the last four years has been 188.5.

Sanderson Farms Championship DFS Lineup for GPPs

  • Harold Varner III – $9,200
  • Cam Davis – $9,100
  • Aaron Wise – $8,300
  • Matthias Schwab- $8,000
  • Scott Stallings – $7,700
  • Patrick Rodgers – $7,600

These are my top Sanderson Farms Championship DFS picks in 2021. Cam Davis has the 9th best odds to win at the top golf sportsbooks online; that’s a noticeable discrepancy from being the 12th-most expensive golfer on DraftKings.

Patrick Rodgers and Matthias Schwab are riding with confidence thanks to playing their way into achieving status. This week marks a perfect opportunity for both to pick up a chunk of FedEx Cup points.

As far as HVIII, Aaron Wise, and Scott Stallings, I elaborate on this trio more in the post below.

In terms of some other names worth a look in DFS: Patton Kizzire ($8,200), Taylor Pendrith ($7,800), and Luke List ($7,500) all come to mind.
