Top DFS Picks for the 2021 CJ Cup at Summit

| October 12, 2021 11:19 am PST

From Dustin and Justin to Xander and Rory, a who’s who in golf has gathered in south Summerlin for the second leg of the Vegas Swing. 20 of the top 25 in the OWGR have made the trip to the Summit Club; we’ve got all sorts of worthwhile options to consider when making PGA DraftKings picks.

Using a couple of organized sections, I’ll run through some names primed to play well at the stunning Tom Fazio design.

Best DFS Golf Picks for the CJ Cup at Summit

Dustin Johnson’s confidence is through the roof. JT and Bones are going to be a dangerous combination. Not touting Xander (Las Vegas resident) almost seems foolish, but we can’t spend $10k+ on everyone in our lineup.

We need to be selective when recommending the best DFS picks for the CJ Cup at Summit.

Enter these two sweet swingers of the golf club.

Collin Morikawa ($10,800)

Much will be made about Collin Morikawa being a member at the Summit – there’s no doubt his course knowledge carries a chunk of weight. For me, it’s just the cherry on top.

The third-ranked player in the world put all concerns about his back to bed with a lights-out performance at the Ryder Cup. Well-rested since triumphing at Whistling Straits, Morikawa will be locked and loaded to get his 2021-22 campaign underway. Anyone who tells you he ended the year in a slump, I’ll refute simply by pointing to four top-4s in his last eight starts.

Those interested in channeling the home game narrative, know that Maverick McNealy is also a member at the Summit.

Louis Oosthuizen ($9,300)

Check the best golf betting sites, and you’ll see Louis’ odds to win are the same as Brooks Koepka. However, “Brooksy” costs $9,700 ok DraftKings and is coming off shooting 72-73 over the weekend at TPC Summerlin (T67). Who knows what his nightly affairs on the Strip will consist of.

On the flip side, Oosthuizen is $400 cheaper and struck the ball beautifully last time out. Louis hit over 79% of the greens en route to a T14; that’s his 9th top 20 in his last 11 starts. He’s going on 11 months without missing a single cut.

If there’s one lock among my CJ Cup DFS picks, Oosthuizen is that guy.

Best DFS Sleepers for the CJ Cup at Summit

Anchoring a lineup with Morikawa and Oosthuizen means you’ll need to scroll down the list and find some value plays. On that note, three guys in the $7-7.5.k range caught my attention.

Aaron Wise ($7,400)

This part-time Vegas resident saunters into the Summit beaming with confidence. Wouldn’t you if you were riding a streak of 20 straight rounds of par or better?

Wouldn’t you feel good about your game if you just fired a trio of blemish-free rounds on your way to a top-10 at the Shriners Children’s Open?

Wise owns a 67.5 scoring average this season, thanks to hitting 75% of the greens in regulation. For perspective, Cameron Percy led the GIR category in 2021 at 72.58%. Aaron’s second victory is coming; it’s only a matter of time.

Harold Varner III ($7,300)

Let the nappy factor ensue. Not that HVIII needed any extra momentum, but making his first start since the birth of his first child rings lots of positive vibes.

Those interested in more substantial evidence, take a quick peek at Harold’s last four starts on the PGA Tour.

Harold Varner III – By the Numbers in His Last 4 Starts
Date Tournament Result Score to Par
10/3/21 Sanderson Farms Championship T11 -18t
9/19/21 Fortinet Championship T16 -11
8/29/21 BMW Championship T12 -17
8/22/21 THE NORTHERN TRUST T11 -12

Now how do you feel about penciling Varner in as one of the best PGA DraftKings picks?

Russell Henley ($7,100)

Russell Henley finished 6th in SG: Approach last season, one year after ranking third in that same statistic. After gaining a whopping 7.286 strokes on his approach shots at TPC Summerlin, Henley has vaulted to #1 in this season’s SG: Approach category.

Henley carded 20 birdies and an eagle last week on the heels of hitting 59/72 greens (81.94%).

At last year’s CJ Cup in Las Vegas, played at another ultra-private Tom Fazio design (Shadow Creek), Russell let his irons do the talking on his way to a T3. Look for more of the same in 2021.

My Suggested DFS Lineup for GPPs

  • Collin Morikawa – $10,800
  • Louis Oosthuizen – $9,300
  • Adam Scott – $8,100
  • Aaron Wise – $7,400
  • Harold Varner III – $7,300
  • Russell Henley – $7,100

A pedestrian-like T35 at the Shriners shouldn’t draw too much attention to Adam Scott in DFS golf on DraftKings. The fact that Adam gained strokes putting last week (+1.295) and looked sharp with his irons (+4.524 in SG: Approach) at least has me intrigued.

Once you fill out your GPP lineups for the CJ Cup at Summit, look to double down on one or more of these golfers in the outright market. More on my best bets to win the CJ Cup can be found below.
