For the first time since 2016, the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars will face off against each other. These two interconference foes will meet at TIAA Bank Stadium in Jacksonville his Sunday, as the 2020 NFL season goes on with Week 6 matchups.

The Lions are 2-0 SU and ATS in their previous two encounters with the Jags, but a lot of things have changed since their previous meeting. Down below, you’ll find all the key tips and notes for the upcoming showdown including my best Lions vs. Jaguars betting pick.

Lions vs. Jaguars Odds

Lions -3.5-110
Jaguars +3.5-110
Lions to Win-190
Jaguars to Win+165
Over 54.5-110
Under 54.5-110

The Jaguars are considered as one of the weakest teams in the NFL this season, so it’s no strange they opened as 3.5-point home dogs against the 1-3 Detroit Lions.

Considering some lousy defenses on both sides, the bookies are looking for a lot of points, setting the line at 54.5 points in total.

Assessing the Detroit Lions

The Lions are coming off a bye, searching for their second straight road victory. Before they lost to the New Orleans Saints 35-29 at home in Week 4, the Lions upset the odds with a 26-23 road victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

Detroit needed less than five minutes to score a couple of touchdowns against the Saints and build a huge lead early in the game. However, the Lions allowed 35 straight points to the Saints before responding with a couple of scores in the second half.

For the second straight season, the Lions’ defense is a huge issue. They allow 31.8 points per game (29th in the NFL) on 405.0 total yards (28th). On the other side of the ball, the Lions are scoring 24.8 points per contest (19th) on 334.0 total yards (25th).

Assessing the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are riding a four-game losing streak following a 30-14 defeat at the Houston Texans this past Sunday. Gardner Minshew tossed for 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but the Jags’ defense was terrible once more, surrendering 486 total yards.

Jacksonville picked off Deshaun Watson twice, but the Jags allowed the Texans’ QB to throw for 359 yards and three touchdowns. They are yielding 29.4 points per game (24th) on 416.8 total yards (29th).

The Jags are scoring 21.8 points per game (25th) on 366.4 total yards (18th). However, their ground game is the seventh-worst in the NFL with 98.4 rushing yards per game, and the Jags desperately need to improve defensively so they can establish some kind of offensive balance.

Lions vs. Jaguars Pick

As long as they are trailing, the Jags will continue to lean on Gardner Minshew’s arm, but they will have a great opportunity to run the ball efficiently in Week 6. The Lions surrendered a whopping 170.3 rushing yards per game.

Both teams have some huge defensive issues, while they possess enough firepower to move the ball and score against each other. Therefore, I have to go with the totals and bet on the over at -110 odds.

The over has hit in four of the last five matchups between Detroit and Jacksonville. More importantly, the over is 5-2 in Detroit’s previous seven outings, and it is 4-1 in Jacksonville’s last five showings.
