Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons Betting – NFL Week 7, 2020
If they want to stay alive in the playoff hunt, the Atlanta Falcons desperately need to remain on the winning path in Week 7 when they welcome the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 25.
However, the visitors are craving for a victory, too, so we’ll see a tremendous battle at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Therefore, I bring you the best Lions vs. Falcons betting pick for Week 7 along with the latest odds update.
Lions vs. Falcons Odds
The Falcons opened as 4.5-point favorites, but the bookies almost immediately adjusted the odds. Considering the teams’ form in 2020, setting the Falcons as slight home favorites is the only reasonable decision, but Detroit backers will be pretty satisfied with three points.
Interestingly, the Lions failed to cover in five consecutive meetings with the Falcons. These two NFC foes haven’t met since 2017 when the Falcons beat the Lions 30-26 as 3-point road favorites.
Detroit Lions Preview
The Lions had no problems to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-16 on the road last Sunday. They finally put on a strong defensive performance and were consistent for all 60 minutes.
Rookie RB D’Andre Swift led the way for Detroit with 14 carries for 116 yards and a couple of touchdowns. The Lions took advantage of the Jags’ terrible run D, racking up 180 rushing yards.
Now, they are averaging 117.4 rushing yards per game (15th in the NFL), and the Lions have to continue improving on the ground. Detroit is scoring 26.6 points per game (16th) while surrendering 28.6 in a return (22nd). The Lions’ run D is the fourth-worst in the league, allowing 145.0 yards per contest.
Atlanta Falcons Preview
The Falcons finally tallied one in the win column, thrashing off of the Minnesota Vikings 40-23 as 4-point road underdogs in Week 6. After five straight losses, the Falcons decided to fire Dan Quinn and shake things a bit, and the team responded well in a tough road matchup with the Vikings.
Matt Ryan destroyed Minnesota’s defense, throwing for 371 yards and four touchdowns. Julio Jones recorded eight receptions for 137 yards and a couple of scores, while Calvin Ridley and Hayden Hurst combined for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Atlanta is scoring 27.0 points per game (13th) on 403.2 total yards (4th). However, the Falcons’ defense is one of the worst in football this season, yielding 30.7 points per outing (28th) on 432.5 total yards (31st).
Lions vs. Falcons Pick
The Falcons picked off Kirk Cousins three times in Week 6, but they still allowed the Vikings’ quarterback to throw for three touchdowns. Atlanta’s secondary is completely hapless, and I expect Matthew Stafford and the Lions’ receiving corps to put on a strong performance.
On the other side, the Lions’ have some serious defensive issues, too, and will have a mountain to climb against the Falcons’ potent passing attack. Therefore, I’m looking for a proper high-scoring affair, but buying a few points won’t hurt anyone.
The over is 7-3 in the Falcons’ last 10 games overall, and it is 5-2 in the Lions’ previous seven outings on the road.
