Top Picks for Derek Brunson vs. Darren Till with Prediction (UFC Vegas 36)

| September 2, 2021 3:40 am PDT

It’s time to run through my prediction for Derek Brunson vs. Darren Till at UFC Vegas 36.

The odds for Brunson vs. Till favor the Englishman, but could there be a surprise in store at the Apex this Saturday, September 4? I mean, Brunson has been in impressive form of late, putting together the best run of his UFC career since 2016.

Till might not be able to boast the same record, but the caliber of his opponents has been significantly higher than Brunson’s.

The winner of this fight could find themselves in contention for a shot at the UFC middleweight title. The question is, who takes the win?

You can find my top tips and fight breakdown in this betting preview for Brunson-Till, below.

Prediction for Brunson vs. Till

  • Predicted Winner: Darren Till
  • Method of Victory: KO/TKO
  • Round: 1

I’m going to make a bold prediction for Derek Brunson vs. Darren Till, so strap yourself in.

My prediction is that Till scores a knockout in the first round and takes one step closer to a shot at the UFC middleweight title.

I’ll explain my rationale for why Till beats Brunson after we look over the odds and best bets for the fight. If that sounds good, keep reading!

Brunson vs. Till Odds Analysis

Darren Till to Win-185
Derek Brunson to Win+150

Till’s odds to beat Brunson are not too shabby on the moneyline.

You can get -185 with Bovada, which is a decent price. As much as Brunson has to be respected here, Till’s style is the perfect tonic for what he brings to the table. Thus, if you’re looking to keep things simple and back the Scouser on the moneyline, crack on.

With that said, I do think there is value in backing Till for the KO/TKO. As it stands, you can get +145, which is rather generous.

The Englishman has not been clinical in recent times but does hold 10 knockouts from 18 career wins. Given Brunson has suffered five knockouts from his last six losses, this is a bet to consider.

Brunson has shown himself to be more than just a gatekeeper in recent times, stringing together a four-fight win streak. He has put together some impressive performances in what has been something of a resurgence for the Renzo Gracie blackbelt.

But are Brunson’s odds to beat Till worthy of a punt? I don’t think so.

Yes, he has been impressive over the past couple of years, but he is facing an opponent in “The Gorilla” that has the type of counterstriking game that he just hates.

Although the Englishman is decent on the moneyline, I believe the best bets to place on Brunson vs. Till can be found in the prop markets for UFC Vegas 36.

Top Picks for Brunson vs. Till

Fight to End Under 2.5 Rounds+110
Till by KO/TKO+145
Fight Ends in Round 1+450

My prediction for Brunson vs. Till is a win for the Englishman by way of a first-round KO/TKO.

Given the stats and style of each man, it’s hard to see this one going any further. With all considered, +110 for the fight to end under the halfway mark sounds like an excellent bet.

You can get slightly better odds for Till to beat Brunson by KO/TKO. Once again, I don’t see this one going the distance and think Till’s power and fight IQ will give him the edge in this fight.

If you’re looking for odds for UFC Vegas 36 with a lot of pop, Till by KO/TKO at +450 is about as good as it gets.

Why Till Beats Brunson by KO/TKO

Let’s keep it simple here.

Darren Till is the better fighter in this matchup. His style should be more effective, and I can’t see Brunson finding a way to deal with his power or striking nous.

Brunson has enjoyed an excellent run of four straight wins. You can’t take anything away from his performances in those fights. But are Elias Theodorou, Ian Heinisch, Edmen Shahbazyan, and Kevin Holland better fighters than Till? I don’t think so.

The key to betting on Brunson vs. Till is understanding that the stylistic clash heavily favors the Liverpudlian.

Brunson’s style is effective against guys that aren’t strong in the clinch or adept at stuffing takedowns. That doesn’t fit the profile of a trigger-happy, rangy southpaw with an 82% takedown defense.

Brunson must take the fight to Till in order to win, which will be an open invitation for The Gorilla to land strong early on. The American’s chin is suspect, and he has shown himself to be a slow starter in the past.

I’ll take Till by KO/TKO in the first round.
