Denver Nuggets vs. Toronto Raptors Betting Pick – August 14, 2020

| August 14, 2020 2:05 am PDT

The final day of the NBA regular season is here and while most teams and fans are desperately waiting for the playoffs, we still have four more games to play. Two of the franchises that won’t be too bothered about their last fixture are the Nuggets and the Raptors.

The reigning champions are second in the East no matter what, while Denver has secured the third spot in the West. The main priority of both teams will be to keep their stars fit for the post-season, but that might open the door for some of the fringe players to make an impression.

I share my prediction and betting pick for the game in this Nuggets vs. Raptors betting preview. It also features the latest odds and team news.

Nuggets vs. Raptors Odds

  • Nuggets to win; +125
  • Raptors to win; -145
  • Nuggets (+2.5); -110
  • Raptors (-2.5); -110

As you can see, the top NBA betting sites struggle to determine a clear favorite here and that’s only natural. The final games of the season are often harder to evaluate because all the stats and trends go out of the window when the teams don’t care much and rest their starts. I assume that the totals line will be published really late for the same reason.

Nuggets vs. Raptors Game Preview

Let’s start with the latest team news as this probably is the single most important factor in this game. Garry Harris and Will Barton will miss the game for the Nuggets, everybody else should be available and the question is if Mike Malone would give minutes to his starters.

My guess is that we will see many of them playing to keep some rhythm going, but in a sensible manner and without any risks for their health.

I expect something similar on the other end because the Raptors will only miss Patrick McCaw for sure, while OG Anunoby and Serge Ibaka are doubtful.

At the end of the day, we might have surprisingly strong starting lineups on both sides, with heavy minutes for the bench players. That’s why I find it hard to share a prediction solely based on the team news and it’s time for some stats.

The Raptors have won six games in the bubble and lost only one, making them one of the best NBA teams since the restart. They have beaten all opponents from the West they’ve faced so far and their defense has been out of this world.

That’s a bit of a worry for the Nuggets who have lost four and won only three games recently. Michael Porter Jr. and the leaner Nikola Jokic have been solid, but the rest of the team hasn’t been too impressive.

The defense has been the biggest problem and I’m not sure that the Nuggets can contain the Raptors right now.

Prediction and Free Pick

There’s little reason to believe that the Nuggets would suddenly improve for the last game from the regular season. They don’t care about it too much and the focus would be on the playoffs. That’s why I expect a win for the high-flying Raptors who look excellent since the restart.

Backing them to cover the 2.5-point spread is the best pick for this one considering the price of -110.

  • Raptors (-2.5); -110
