Denmark vs. Finland – European Championship, June 12, 2021
Nordic foes Denmark and Finland go head-to-head on the opening weekend of the long-awaited European Championship. The Group B rivals meet at Copenhagen’s Parken on Saturday, June 12.
Spearheaded by Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki, the Finns are getting their first taste of major tournament soccer this summer.
By contrast, the Danes secured a shock triumph at Euro 1992 and have featured at four of the six tournaments since then.

Denmark vs. Finland Betting Odds
10bet views Denmark as the clear favorite to win this one – and you cannot argue with that viewpoint. Not only do the Danes boast a far stronger squad than Finland, but they also head into the Euros in better form.
Having failed to win any of their last six matches (two draws, four losses), the Eagle-Owls are the bookies’ rightful outsiders here.
Don’t Underestimate Denmark
Since September 2018, the Red and Whites have suffered just two defeats in 28 games. Of course, a lot has changed during the past three years. But that is still a phenomenal record.
In recent times, Kasper Hjulmand’s men have picked up nine wins in their previous 11 matches. After beating Israel (2-0), Moldova (8-0), and Austria (4-0) back in March, Denmark secured an impressive 1-1 draw with Germany before beating Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-0 last weekend.
The 1992 European Champions have netted 17 goals across their last five games (3.4 goals per game) and have also kept four clean sheets in that time.
With Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) between the sticks, Andreas Christensen (Chelsea) and Jannik Vestergaard (Southampton) in defense, and the likes of Martin Braithwaite (Barcelona) and Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig) in attack, Denmark is a force to be reckoned with.
Finland Could Struggle to Compete
Unfortunately, Finland doesn’t boast the quality of Denmark. Still, Markku Kanerva’s men will be eager to make their mark at Euro 2020 – their country’s maiden major tournament.
Minnesota United duo Jukka Raitala and Robin Lod will likely feature in the team’s spine, with fellow MLS star Lassi Lappalainen (CF Montreal) operating further forward. Pukki – who bagged 26 goals last season – needs no introduction.
Following a hugely impressive Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, the Finns have flattered to deceive in recent months.
Having picked up draws with Bosnia and Ukraine back in March, Kanerva’s men come into the Euros on a six-game winless streak. Three straight friendly defeats to Switzerland, Sweden, and Russia have clearly knocked the team’s confidence.
Are the Finns out of their depth? Or can they turn things around and upset the odds in Group B?
Prediction and Pick for Denmark vs. Finland
Denmark to Win1.43
At the end of the day, the gulf between these Nordic neighbors is vast. Even if the Finns are at their best on Saturday, Denmark should claim all three points without any real problems.
The Red and Whites have won nine of their previous 11 games, while the Eagle-Owls have lost each of their last three. With that in mind, the home win is my Denmark vs. Finland betting pick.
