Delta Downs Picks – Tuesday, January 19, 2021

| January 18, 2021 12:41 pm PDT

Delta Downs has nine maiden, starter, and claiming races on the schedule for Tuesday. Spectators who attend the races in person will do so under partly cloudy skies, with temps in the mid-70s and winds around 11 mph.

Read on for my Delta Downs picks and betting tips for Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Picks for Race 2 at Delta Downs

This is a starter optional claiming race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $24,000.

My money is on the 8/5 morning line favorite in this race — Kris T., ridden by Edguard A. Tejera. This five-year-old mare finished in the money 14 of her 26 career starts, winning eight of them.

At 10/1, Yonna She Goes, with Devon Magnon in the irons, looks like the best we’re going to get if we want to place a value show bet in this race. This six-year-old mare moneyed 14 of her 27 career starts, winning six.

  •  Win: Kris T. 8/5
  •  Show: Yonna She Goes 10/1

Pick for Race 3 at Delta Downs

This is a maiden special weight race for Louisiana-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $35,000.

I have to agree with the morning line on this race, as well, and I’m buying a win ticket on the 9/5 favorite, All Our Time, with Joel Dominguez aboard. This four-year-old gelding has no record for starts but has achieved some excellent times in recent workouts.

There’s a 20/1 longshot in this race, but that isn’t going to happen, so keep your long money in your wallet.

  •  Win: All Our Time 9/5

Picks for Race 7 at Delta Downs

This is an allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $31,000.

Either half of the 1/1A coupled entry looks good to win this race, but since they’re both being ridden by Tim Thornton, I’m we’re going to have to make a choice. If both start this race, the wager is easy: Bet the 9/5 coupled entry to win.

The top half of the couple entry, Aloha Betty, is a five-year-old mare with a good record: 10 money finishes in 15 career starts, six of them wins.

The bottom half of the coupled entry is Pretty Britches, and her record nearly as good: 15 money finishes in 27 career starts, nine of them wins.

Of the two, I’d prefer to see Pretty Britches scratched, but if they both start in this race, bet the one Thornton is aboard.

And at 12/1, Tenpin Tempo is a good choice for a value show bet. This seven-year-old mare moneyed 18 of her 33 career starts, winning nine — and she drew many of her paychecks in stakes races at both Delta Downs and Evangeline Downs.

  •  Win: Aloha Betty/Pretty Britches 9/5
  •  Show: Tenpin Tempo 12/1
