Delta Downs Picks – Tuesday, February 9, 2021
Claiming races are the main attraction at Delta Downs for our Tuesday wagering, although there are the odd allowance and maiden race to keep things popping.
Delta Downs remains one of the few tracks that currently permits spectators, and while tracks farther north are digging out from under the recent snows, Delta Downs on Tuesday will have partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid-70s, and winds at a mild six mph.
Remember that while I review the top three races here, you can find Delta Downs’ entire nine-race card for Tuesday at one of our best horse racing betting sites.
Read on for my Delta Downs picks and betting tips for Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
Pick for Race 4 at Delta Downs
This is a claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $15,000.
I’m backing the 9/5 morning line favorite here—Riskey Tricky, ridden by Gerard Melancon. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money seven of his 12 career starts, winning one—which makes him the frontrunner in this field.
I see no longer-odds entries with a chance of finishing in the money in this race.
- Win: Riskey Tricky 9/5
Picks for Race 6 at Delta Downs
This is a claiming race for Louisiana-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $17,000.
My money’s on the fourth-favored (6/1) entry in this race—Sailing Jett, with Joel Dominguez in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed six of his 12 career starts, winning one.
In contrast, the morning line favorite moneyed six of 20, with one win.
And at 15/1, I like Imdusty, with Diego Saenz aboard, for a value show wager, if not an across the board bet. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money for three of his five career starts, winning one.
- Win: Sailing Jett 6/1
- Show/Across the Board: Imdusty 15/1
Picks for Race 8 at Delta Downs
This is an allowance race for Louisiana-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $36,000.
I’m going with the second-favored (3/1) entry here—Reach the Circle, ridden by Timothy Thornton. This four-year-old gelding moneyed 12 of his 21 career starts, winning four.
At 10/1, Broadway Jones, with Joel Dominguez in the irons, is a good value show ticket. This four-year-old gelding moneyed nine of his 14 career starts, winning three. You might even consider an across the board wager here, but I’m just recommending the show bet.
- Win: Reach the Circle 3/1
- Show: Broadway Jones 10/1
