Delta Downs Picks – Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Delta Downs continues the racing week on Tuesday with a schedule of nine maiden, claiming, and allowance races.
The competitors at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana, can expect sunny skies, highs in the upper 60s, and mild winds around six mph. Even the relative humidity has taken a holiday and dropped to around 58%, which for Louisiana is practically desert conditions—if your idea of a desert has gators wandering around.
Incidentally, remember that while I cover Tuesday’s three richest races at Delta Downs, you can always find their entire race card — including entries, jockeys, M/L odds, and wagering options — at one of our best horse racing betting sites.
Read on for my Delta Downs picks and betting tips for Tuesday, December 8, 2020.
Pick for Race 3 at Delta Downs
This is a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $35,000.
I’m going with the second-favored (4/1) entry in this race — Morricone, with Ry Eikleberry in the irons. This colt finished in the money for three of his four starts and has performed well in his most recent workouts.
None of the longer odds entries in this field have done anything recently to suggest they might see a money finish here, so save your long money for later.
- Win: Morricone 4/1
Pick for Race 5 at Delta Downs
This is a maiden special weight race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $30,000.
I agree with the morning line in this race, and my win ticket is on the 8/5 favorite, Ashley’s New Shoes, with Tim Thornton aboard. This four-year-old filly moneyed one of her four career starts.
Again, I see no longer-odds entries in this maiden race that might finish in the money.
- Win: Ashley’s New Shoes 8/5
Picks for Race 8 at Delta Downs
This is an allowance race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $36,000.
I have to back the morning line’s 5/2 favorite here — Charzee Baby, ridden by Kevin J. Smith. This six-year-old mare moneyed 21 of her 36 career starts, winning eight.
At 15/1, Hiclass Production, with Ry Eikleberry aboard, looks to be a good value show bet in this race. This five-year-old mare finished in the money nine of her 18 career starts, winning three.
- Win: Charzee Baby 5/2
- Show: Hiclass Production 15/1
