Delta Downs Picks – Tuesday, December 22, 2020
Delta Downs features mostly maiden and claiming races for its Tuesday thoroughbred horse racing fare.
The forecast in Vinton, Louisiana for Tuesday calls for partly cloudy skies, highs in the upper 60s, a slight (10%) chance of rain, and winds around eight mph.
I review three of Delta Downs’ richest Tuesday races here, but you can find their entire nine-race card — including entries, jockeys, M/L odds, and wagering options — at one of our top online racebooks.
Read on for my Delta Downs picks and betting tips for Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
Picks for Race 2 at Delta Downs
This is a claiming race for Louisiana-bred three-year-olds and upward running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $24,000.
I’m agreeing with the morning line here and putting my money on the 5/2 favorite — Mr. Production, ridden by Timothy Thornton. This four-year-old colt moneyed six of his 11 career starts, winning one.
I like the 20/1 longshot Imdusty, with C. J. McMahon aboard, for a good value show wager. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money two of his three career starts. Incidentally, there are potentially four 20/1 longshots in this race if you count the also-eligibles, but only Imdusty is worth the wager.
- Win: Mr. Production 5/2
- Show: Imdusty 20/1
Pick for Race 3 at Delta Downs
This is a maiden special weight race for Louisiana-bred two-year-olds running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $35,000.
I have to go with the morning line’s choice for this race as well, so my bet’s on the 3/1 favorite — Mean Cannon, with Gerardo Mora in the irons. This colt moneyed two of his four career starts, giving himself the best record in this field.
I don’t see any good show-ticket prospects among the handful of long-odds entries here, so let’s save our money for later.
- Win: Mean Cannon 3/1
Pick for Race 7 at Delta Downs
This is an allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $31,000.
I like one of the fourth-favored entries (there are three at 8/1) in this race — Naughty Justice, ridden by Thomas Pompell. This three-year-old filly moneyed five of her seven career starts, winning one.
None of the longer-odds entries in this allowance race look to finish anywhere near the money, so no value show bet recommendation for this race.
- Win: Naughty Justice 8/1

Delta Downs had a nice 8/1 for us to bet on, but I found more underdogs and even some longer-odds moneymakers at the other two tracks I reviewed for Tuesday:
