Del Mar Racing Picks – Saturday, October 31, 2020

| October 30, 2020 2:32 pm PDT

Del Mar Racing kicks off what it calls the “Bing Season” Saturday with nine thoroughbred races headlined by the Kathryn Crosby Stakes.

Remember that you can check out and even place wagers on all nine of Del Mar Racing’s matches for Saturday with a visit to one of our recommended racebooks.

Read on for my Del Mar Racing picks and betting tips for Saturday, October 31, 2020.

Pick for Del Mar Racing Race 3

This is a maiden special weight race for California-bred or -sired three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $57,000.

I’m sticking with the 2/1 morning line favorite here—Trevor T, with veteran jockey Umberto Rispoli in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed one of his two career starts, which puts him in the statistical lead in this field.

There are two longer-odds entries in this seven-horse race, but neither has much of a record for money finishes, so save your money.

  • Win: Trevor T 2/1

Pick for Del Mar Racing Race 5

This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $59,000.

My money is on the 3/1 morning line favorite here, as well—Over Attracted, with Umberto Rispoli aboard. This filly moneyed three of her eight career starts, winning one.

Incidentally, I wanted to go with the second-favored Avenue of France, but her two wins were over a year ago and both were in France—she hasn’t fared well at all on US tracks.

There’s only one long-odds entry in this race, and those odds (15/1) are not long enough to justify the risk of a show bet.

  • Win: Over Attracted 3/1

Pick for Del Mar Racing Race 7 – Kathryn Crosby Stakes

This is the ungraded Kathryn Crosby Stakes, a race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $75,000.

I’m going with one of the 5/1 underdogs (there are four in this eight-horse race)—Never Be Enough, with Tiago J. Pereira aboard. This five-year-old mare moneyed 17 of her 26 career starts, winning six—and her 2020 record is five money finishes in seven starts, three of them wins.

I don’t see any odds longer than 8/1, so our long-money stays safe to bet another day—which is a win of sorts, innit.

  • Win: Never Be Enough 5/1
