DC United vs. New York Red Bulls Betting Preview – MLS, September 12, 2020

| September 10, 2020 8:26 am PDT

DC United beat the Red Bulls 1-0 last week, prompting the New York club to part ways with manager Chris Armas. The two sides go head-to-head again on Saturday, September 12, and interim head coach Bradley Carnell will be standing in for the visitor.

There is only one point separating these teams in the Eastern Conference standings, with the Red Bulls sitting just above DC. However, it feels like the New York outfit is in decline, while United appears to be moving in the right direction.

You can find my DC United vs. New York Red Bulls prediction and betting pick below.

DC United vs. New York Red Bulls Betting Odds

DC United to Win 3.00
The Draw 3.50
New York Red Bulls to Win 2.20

Despite failing to win any of their previous four outings and recently parting ways with their manager, the Red Bulls are the online sportsbooks’ favorite to win this game. Having said that, the high price for the away win suggests that DC is likely to cause the visiting teams plenty of problems.

Given the contrasting form of the two sides, the odds for the home win and the draw stand out to me. But before I make my decision, let’s take a closer look at both teams.

DC United vs. New York Red Bulls Preview

DC United only managed to add two points to their tally at the MLS is Back Tournament, and when the regular season resumed, the team’s struggles continued. Following a goalless draw with Cincinnati, the Black & Red suffered consecutive defeats to New England Revolution (2-1) and Philadelphia Union (4-1).

But having taken four points from two games against the New York clubs, things are looking up for DC. Ben Olsen’s men edged the Red Bulls thanks to a last-gasp Erik Sorga goal before holding New York City to a draw last weekend.

It is no secret that United needs to start scoring more goals, and that was clear for all to see against NYC. DC failed to register a single shot last time out, but their defense stood firm.

The Red Bulls’ decision to sack Chris Armas may have come as a surprise to a lot of people, although many believed that a change was due. After all, the team has only won three of their ten outings this year, with each of those wins coming in the opening six games.

The New York club is enduring a tricky four-game winless run at the moment. Interim head coach Bradley Carnell oversaw the team’s third defeat in a fortnight on Sunday, as the Red Bulls were humiliated 3-0 by Philadelphia.

If scoring goals is a slight problem for DC, it is a major concern for the Red Bulls. Indeed, only strugglers Nashville and Cincinnati have netted on fewer occasions.

DC United vs. New York Red Bulls Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

I don’t think either of these teams are playing well enough to win this game at the moment. Yes, DC United is unbeaten in their previous two encounters. But those games could quite easily have gone either way.

The Red Bulls will be desperate to put in a solid performance, although I can’t see them doing enough to claim all three points.
