Daniil Medvedev vs. Marton Fucsovic Betting – French Open, September 28, 2020
The French Open 2020 is now underway and we already saw two seeded players eliminated on the first day of the tournament. That should serve as a warning sign for the other favorites.
One of them is Daniil Medvedev who has a somewhat tricky first round against Marton Fucsovic on Monday. The Russian has never won at the Roland-Garros and he will be hoping to break the curse.
I share my thoughts on his chances to overcome his opponent in this Daniil Medvedev vs. Marton Fucsovic betting preview. The post includes the latest odds, a quick overview of both players, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

The Daniil Medvedev vs. Marton Fucsovic odds of the top French Open betting sites suggest that the Russian is a solid favorite in this one. Such an assessment is hardly a surprise considering his rise to stardom in the past year or so.
Daniil Medvedev Player Analysis
The Roland-Garros has been a disaster in the early stages of Daniil Medvedev’s career. The Russian got knocked out in the first round of the tournament in 2017, 2018, and 2019. For some reason, he just doesn’t perform well on clay.
Medvedev certainly is going into 2020’s edition with the hope of a deep run this time around. The world number 5 believes that the new balls can help his style. The early signs are that the controversial new Wilson balls don’t spin as much and that could benefit players who’s style is built around on flat shots.
You can certainly say that for Medvedev and it’s interesting to see if he can take advantage of the change. On top of that, the Russian leads Fucovic 3-0 in the head-to-head department, so he should be confident in his chances to win the opener this time around.
Marton Fucsovic Player Analysis
One factor that works in Fucsovic’s favor is that he was knocked in the third round of the US Open 2020. That gave the Hungarian more time to prepare for the French Open in comparison to Daniil Medvedev who reached the semifinals in New York.
Fucsovic also has some decent results on clay and likes the surface overall. His record in the French Open is not much better than Medvedev’s, though, because he only won one match here in 2018.
The truth is that Fucsovic is a solid player who can be successful in the second tier of male tennis, but lacks the talent to achieve something special on the biggest stage. I don’t think that could change in the 2020 French Open.
Medvedev vs. Fucsovic Prediction and Betting Pick
I expect a win for Daniil Medvedev on Monday, but given the Russian’s history and his delayed preparations for the French Open, it shouldn’t be too easy. Fucsovic can steal a set, so the price of -120 for over 35.5 games looks like the best pick here.
- Pick: Over 35.5; -120
